Welcome Program Ambassador

 

About the Welcome Program

The Welcome Program aims to encourage inclusiveness and strengthen a sense of belonging by engaging local residents to act as Ambassadors working alongside Community Support Assistants to plan, organise and conduct community activities to welcome newcomers within Sydney and near by areas.

The role of Ambassadors is to assist in activity coordination for newcomers to attend events, tours and outings, as well as share your interest to create a welcoming, enjoyable experience which encourages intercultural exchange and dialogue.

When and commitment

Minimum of fortnightly commitment for six months. Weekday and weekend activities available.  

Location

Various locations around Sydney (eg Blue Mountains, Bondi Beach, Sydney CBD)

What you will do

  • Assist newcomers to attend events, tours and outings – i.e., coastal walks, markets and outdoor based activities
  • Assist in activity coordination and Program review and development as required
  • Attend and share your interest in Sydney events and activities
  • Create a welcoming, enjoyable experience which encourages intercultural exchange and dialogue
  • Follow all reasonable directions provided by Welcome Project Coordinators and delegates.

All volunteers have the responsibility to:

  • Actively support SSI’s vision and values
  • Work in accordance with SSI policies and procedures
  • Follow all reasonable directions provided by SSI staff or delegate
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep client information securely 

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of what Sydney has to offer including, where to access free events/programs information
  • Willingness to broker relationships with local businesses, attractions and civic groups
  • Knowledge of the Sydney community and local landmarks
  • Warm, friendly and welcoming nature

 Desirable

  • Previous experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds

Reimbursement

Volunteers, students and interns will have access to reimbursement for all pre- approved expenses including reasonable travel expenses. Volunteers, students, interns using their own vehicle will need to provide SSI Group with photocopies of their driver’s license, comprehensive car insurance and compulsory third-party insurance.

Training

Volunteers, students, interns will be provided with access to SSI Group’s flexible, extensive and innovative training program.
