Volunteer Ignite Accounting & Finance Support
About the Role
The Ignite Small Business Start-ups Initiative facilitates small business creation for vulnerable people including those from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, as well as people living with disability, who want to start their own business or expand an existing one. Ignite entrepreneurs are supported one-on-one by a facilitator and linked to a Resource Team, made up of various industry experts from the business community, business support volunteers and students.
The Volunteer Accounting & Finance Support assists Ignite entrepreneurs to develop good bookkeeping and accounting practices, improve their knowledge of the Australian business environment and where required, put together simple, contextualised and individual business plans for a diverse range of businesses.
When and commitment
Flexible to meet the needs of entrepreneurs with a minimum 6-month commitment
What you will do
- Support Ignite entrepreneurs to determine the best costing and pricing for their product/service
- Guide Ignite entrepreneurs on proper bookkeeping and accounting practices
- Put together relevant financial data e.g., cash flow, profit and loss statements and balance sheets
- If possible and required, work with Ignite facilitators and entrepreneurs to develop a simple, viable and effective business plan based on industry research
Essential
- Qualifications and/or experience in accounting or working towards accounting qualifications
- High level knowledge of Australian business environment and accounting practices
Desirable
- Experience in developing business plans
- Previous experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
Responsibility of volunteers
- Actively support SSI’s vision and values
- Adhere to SSI policies and procedures
- Follow all reasonable directions provided by the Ignite Program Manager, or delegate
Reimbursement
Volunteers will have access to reimbursement for all pre-approved expenses including reasonable travel expenses. Volunteers using their own vehicle will need to provide SSI with photocopies of their driver’s licence, comprehensive car insurance and current car registration.
Training
Volunteers will be provided with access to SSI’s flexible, extensive and innovative training program.
Volunteer Ignite Business Support
About the Role
The Ignite Small Business Start-ups initiative facilitates small business creation for people from a refugee and asylum seeker background who want to start their own business or expand an existing one. Ignite entrepreneurs are supported by a Resource Team, made up of stakeholders from the community including local business owners, finance experts, marketing specialists, universities, members of local councils, community organisations and chambers of commerce.
The Ignite Volunteer Business Support offers holistic one-on-one support to Ignite entrepreneurs. Business Support Volunteers work with entrepreneurs through their designated facilitator and face to face with the client where possible. The role of the Business Support Volunteer is to coach, guide assist and provide general business information to build the confidence of the entrepreneur as they establish and/or grow their business.

What you will do
Ignite Business Support Volunteers provide holistic support to lgnite entrepreneurs including:
- Assistance in the development of the product or service
- Assistance in the development of business plans
- Provision of information on Australian business practices
- Guidance on growing a small business in Australia
- Provision of information and support in making business contacts and networks
- Supporting entrepreneurs to identify and manage opportunities and risks in the Australian business environment
- Providing up-to-date information on relevant licences and insurances, including associated costs, that the entrepreneur may need for their business
- Providing regular feedback and updates on the entrepreneur’s progress to Ignite’s Facilitators
Essential
- Expert knowledge in Australian business practices
- Experience in growing small businesses in Australia
- Able to identify and manage risks in the Australian business environment
- Knowledge of Qualifications, licences, insurances and costs associated with business set up and continuance

Volunteer Ignite Client Social Media Support

The Volunteer Client Social Media Support will support Ignite entrepreneurs in creating a digital footprint and presence by identifying the best social media channels for their business and supporting their creation and initial engagement, as part of an overall sales and marketing strategy.
When and commitment
Flexible to meet the needs of entrepreneurs with a minimum 6-month commitment
What you will do
- Work with Ignite facilitators and entrepreneurs to identify the best social media channels for their business and industry (eg: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- Create social media account/s and setup profiles
- Use correct logo size
- Fill out all relevant profile fields with relevant information and photos
- Support with social media strategy
- Support with creating a simple strategy for each channel (the strategy should be based on marketing goals that align with business objective)
- Support with identifying relevant keywords/hashtags to maximise engagement
- Support with creating a feed theme that is aligned with brand visuals
- Social media engagement support
- Provide practical support to the entrepreneur by creating 2 weeks’ worth of content and assist the entrepreneur to engage their audience to drive leads and sales
Essential
- Experience with social media marketing and/or qualifications/experience in the Marketing Sector
- Knowledge of on-line marketing and social media
Desirable
- Ability to work independently
- Confidence managing tasks to timelines, establishing priorities and producing deliverables
- Previous experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
