Volunteer Youth Program Support Assistant

  • HSP Youth Programs 

    SSI HSP Youth Program aims to create inclusive spaces where young individuals can connect, learn, and access support services.

    Volunteers play a crucial role in facilitating these experiences, ensuring participants feel welcomed and valued. 

    HSP Youth Hub

    The Youth Hub occur monthly at Guildford Park and attracts about 70 to 100 young people newly arrived in Australia, aged 17 to 25 years.

    The fundamental objective of the Youth Hub is to provide young people with a secure and comfortable environment where they can gather, foster social connections, and acquire a more comprehensive understanding of the local services and support mechanisms available to them.

    In addition to this, the Youth Hub offers a diverse range of activities including food, musical entertainment, opportunities for sports and recreation, as well as an array of engaging activities such as henna. 

    When: First Friday of every month, starting at 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM 

    Where: Guildford Park, 15 Marian Street Guildford.

    Highlights:

    • Collaboration with local community elders through Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land council
    • Strengthened relations with services like Reclink Australia, facilitating engagement in recreational sports.

    Partner organisations include Reclink Australia, SSI Employment Services Program, TAFE NSW, Western Sydney University, Youth Linkers Service NSW, Navitas, and Lebanese Muslim Association.

    Volunteers and staff arrival time: 11:30 AM

    Youth Drop-in Space

    The Drop – in space provides a safe and welcoming environment for newly arrived young people to eat and drink, listen to music, play games, participate in team building and leadership activities, engage with SSI staff and volunteers and access free WiFi.

    There are also special sessions with guest speakers, such as Connecting Women to Trades program, providing insights into career pathways and SSI employment programs.

    When: Every Friday (excluding the first Friday of each month), from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. 

    Where: SSI Fairfield Office, 7 William Street Fairfield.

    Engagement: Young people interact with HSP Youth staff and volunteers to express preferences for future events and programs.

Multicultural Sports Club (MSC) - Brisbane

Multicultural Sports Club

Volunteer MSC Program Assistant

About the Role

This role will support SSI’s Multicultural Sports Club (MSC) staff to plan, coordinate and conduct MSC programs and activities, such as Youth Night. The MSC strives to promote social inclusion through sport by encouraging the concept of sportsmanship and mateship across cultural boundaries while seeking to address the barriers that culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) youth have to face when participating in sport, as well as linking them with local social, sporting and vocational opportunities.

When and commitment

Various times Monday – Friday. No more than 16 hours per week 

What you will do

  • Support MSC team with the planning of community sports and recreation programs, activities and events to increase participation and program promotion
  • Supporting the community coaches, and other relevant stakeholders, to deliver sports and recreation programs
  • Assist with MSC Program administration support, including program reporting, equipment stocktake and activity preparation and pack up
  • Supporting with client transports (if applicable)
  • Follow all reasonable directions provided by supervisor, or delegate

 Essential

  • An interest in sport to promote community participation and inclusion
  • Excellent organizational, time management and teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a welcoming and friendly attitude
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative

Desirable

  • Community services, sport management, education or other related tertiary qualifications
  • Ability to speak relevant community language
  • Previous experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, in particular refugees

Reimbursement

Volunteers will have access to reimbursement for all pre-approved expenses including reasonable travel expenses. Volunteers using their own vehicle will need to provide SSI with photocopies of their driver’s licence, comprehensive car insurance and current car registration.

Training

 Volunteers will be provided with access to SSI’ flexible, extensive and innovative training program.

Volunteer MSC Driver and Program Support

About the Role

This role will support participants who have limited access to transport and are socially isolated to participate in Access’ Multicultural Sports Club (MSC) programs and activities, such as Youth Night, by driving them to and from their home to the activities. The MSC strives to promote social inclusion through sport by encouraging the concept of sportsmanship and mateship across cultural boundaries while seeking to address the barriers that culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) youth have to face when participating in sport, as well as linking them with local social, sporting and vocational opportunities.

You will use SSI’ car, which can be picked up from SSI Gateway, 91 Wembley Road, Woodridge and drive participants to Gould Adams Community Centre, 558 Kingston Road, Kingston.

You will also have the opportunity to build your community/sports program development and implementation skills and knowledge by supporting staff to run and manage program requirements and objectives. 

When and commitment

Various times Monday – Friday. A minimum 3 month commitment is requested.

What you will do

  • Pick up and transport program participant/s to and from their home to MSC at Kingston
  • Assist staff to run and manage programs and activities  
  • Maintain confidentiality and keep client information securely
  • Actively support SSI Group’s vision and values
  • Adhere to SSI Group policies and procedures
  • Follow all reasonable directions provided by supervisor, or delegate

 Essential

  • Must have a driver’s license and good driving history
  • Knowledge and understanding of the multicultural sector including relevant government policies and programs.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with people from diverse backgrounds

The Welcome Program - Sydney

Welcome Program - Sydney

Welcome Program Community Support Assistant

About the Welcome Program

Welcome Program aims to encourage inclusiveness and strengthen a sense of belonging by engaging Volunteer Ambassadors (residents) to engage in community activities of welcoming refugees/new arrivals.

The Program helps refugees/new arrivals to feel welcome and more connected, establish relationships and boost their self-confidence to access and participate in what Sydney can offer. It will also assist the broader Sydney community to increase their understanding of the humanitarian program and refugee needs as well as offer a unique opportunity to engage in an intercultural experience to learn from, and about each other. Welcome Program activities can include social, cultural and recreational activities across Sydney.

When and commitment

Minimum one day per month for six months. (Primarily weekends, occasionally weekdays)

Location

Various locations around Sydney (eg Blue Mountains, Bondi Beach, Sydney CBD)

What you will do

  • Assist newcomers during events, tours and outings with language support
  • Accompany newcomers on public transport to and from Western Sydney to Welcome Program activities to help build confidence
  • Assist in activity coordination as required – i.e. knowledge of public transport meeting places
  • Support clients to complete photo consent forms on the way there and feedback forms on the way back
  • Share your interest in Sydney events and activities
  • Create a welcoming, enjoyable experience which encourages intercultural exchange and dialogue
  • Take photos and provide feedback of the activities to Community Engagement Project Officer
  • Help to create an encouraging, inclusive and supportive network for people seeking support

All volunteers have the responsibility to:

  • Actively support SSI’s vision and values

  • Maintain confidentiality and keep client information securely 

Essential

  • Excellent communication and ability to speak either Arabic, Dari, Ukrainian
  • Warm, friendly and welcoming nature
  • Genuine interest in learning about different cultures and sharing knowledge with others

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds

Volunteers, students and interns will have access to reimbursement for all pre- approved expenses including reasonable travel expenses. Volunteers, students, interns using their own vehicle will need to provide SSI Group with photocopies of their driver’s licence, comprehensive car insurance and compulsory third-party insurance.

Volunteers, students, interns will be provided with access to SSI Group’s flexible, extensive and innovative training program.
