Gateway and Brown's Creek State Trails

Trail Description

The Gateway State Trail is an 18 mile multiple use trail that begins in the city of St. Paul, travels northeast through the cities of Maplewood, North St. Paul, and Oakdale, through Washington County, and ends at Pine Point Regional Park, just four miles northwest of the city of Stillwater. Located on a former Soo Line Railroad grade, the trail is generally level and wheelchair accessible. East of I-694, an adjacent unpaved trail provides ten miles of horseback riding and carriage driving.

The Brown's Creek State Trail is 5.9 miles long and connects the Gateway State Trail in the city of Grant to the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway in Stillwater. Situated on a former railroad grade, the trail is generally level and accessible to users of all abilities. The trail connects to local park and trail systems.

Purchase and development of this trail was made possible by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, the Legacy Amendment, Washington County, the City of Stillwater, and the Gateway-Brown's Creek Trail Association.

Nongame Wildlife

A colorful collage of wildlife species, including a turtle, butterfly, loon, and frog

The Minnesota Nongame Wildlife Program works to help thousands of species of Minnesota wildlife like bees, butterflies, songbirds, eagles, loons, frogs, turtles, and bats thrive through habitat restorations, surveys and monitoring, technical guidance, and outreach and education - including the Eagle and Falcon cams!

The Minnesota Nongame Wildlife Program is funded almost entirely through grants and donations. We do not receive money from hunting and fishing license sales or state taxes (general fund).

The Nongame Wildlife Program houses many community science programs that offer fun, nature-based volunteering opportunities. Help us research Minnesota's bats, frogs, loons, chimney swifts, and more by becoming a community scientist! This My Impact account houses the opportunity sign-ups for bat echo location (acoustic) monitoring, bat roost monitoring, and regal fritillary monitoring.

Mission Statement

The Nongame Wildlife Program strives to maintain and enhance the state’s diversity of wildlife. We help restore native wildlife populations and support Minnesota’s Species in Greatest Conservation Need. We protect and manage crucial habitats, conduct scientific research to better understand Minnesota’s wildlife species and the ecosystems in which they live, and we forge connections between Minnesotans and native wildlife through engagement and education.
