Corvallis Community Center (C3) Volunteer Positions

Special Events Team


Be a part of our Events Team!

Special Events occur periodically throughout the year and have a variety of needs. C3 Events may include artist receptions, concerts, social dances, Park in the Dark, GameCon and more.  As part of the special event team, you will get the chance to put your unique skills to work. We need folks that can do a variety of things that are event specific, some duties may include: setting up chairs & canopies, organizing people, serving drinks, hanging lights, procuring donations, guarding exits, and much more.

Short shifts available or become an event team lead and work more than one event throughout the year! With larger special events, we may also be in need of group volunteers and those seeking one-time only opportunities.

Skills: This area has several needs, so skill set required will vary. No matter what your skills, events team has a place for you to serve the community without an ongoing time commitment. 

Requirements: dependent upon role - some roles have no specific requirements, others may require background check, food handlers’ and/or OLCC license

Activity Host/Facilitator


Host one of our drop-in activities and ensure our participants have the best experience!

Be a host/facilitator for a drop-in activity or group at the Center. You will serve as a warm and friendly host - greeting folks, having them sign in as needed, and welcoming them. Sometimes you may need to sanitize tables before or after, set out or put away equipment, and help tidy up. Depending on the activity, you can join in the fun or sit back and watch, your choice.

Drop-in activities include Artist's Workshop, Ping Pong, Bridge, and Board Games. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Schedule varies according to which activity you're facilitating.

Skills: Friendly, enjoys socializing, and great customer service skills.

Volunteer Instructor - Fitness & Health


Have past certifications or education in teaching fitness?

Help improve community health at C3. We are looking for knowledgeable volunteers willing to train to deliver evidence-based fitness and health programs to community members. Programs that are designed to prevent or improve health challenges will require special online training that C3 will provide. 

Skills: This role is perfect for past fitness folks that want to teach, but may not want an ongoing class. Prior knowledge, education or certification in fitness or health required.

Requirements: First Aid/CPR and background check

Newsletter Mailing Team


Help prepare the C3 Newsletter for mailing!

Newsletter Team volunteers help with folding, assembling, stapling, labeling, and getting the newsletter ready to be mailed to the community and subscribers. A great option for those looking to help at the Center but who are unable to commit to a regularly scheduled volunteer position. 

Newsletter assembly happens once every two months, for one scheduled 3-4 hour session. Come join other volunteers in a safely socially distanced setting as we prepare the newsletter together.

Community Outreach Team

Help build community awareness of all that C3 offers

Community outreach volunteers assist with outreach via tabling at events and flyer distribution around town. Volunteers can help run information tables at Parks & Recreation events, as well as other events like Farmer's Markets and Street Fairs. You'll connect with the public and help promote the volunteer program, C3 activities and classes, and share information on what C3 has to offer the community. Volunteers can also help promote special events and activities by distributing flyers to local businesses via our 'Street Team'. Routes are planned and can be walked, cycled or driven according to preference. 

This volunteer opportunity offers flexible scheduling, and training for tabling shifts is provided.

Skills: outgoing, strong customer service skills and the desire to learn about our programs and offerings.

Front Desk Assistant

Help support the C3 Team with your office skills!

Front Desk Assistants are vital members of our team, working closely with staff to assist both C3 patrons and the general community by answering phones, processing class and activity registrations, connecting individuals in need with other community organizations and resources, assisting with room setups, and more.


Schedule: one 3 to 4-hour shift per week; 6-month commitment desired

Skills: strong customer service skills, basic computer skills, attention-to-detail

Requirements: background check & one shadow shift to confirm interest in position

Trips & Tours Driver

 

Come explore culture with C3!

Volunteer trips & tours drivers transport community members to scheduled events and locations all around the valley in our 15-passenger and wheelchair accessible vans. Enjoy live performances, football games, museums and more, all complimentary of C3! Past trips have included the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, the Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival and Hamilton at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.

Skills: patience, reliability, professionalism and great customer service skills.

Mission Statement

The Corvallis Parks & Recreation Department hosts several special events a year. These large community events are designed to improve the quality of life in the community, help create a sense of belonging, help support local business, and most importantly, are fun!  These large events need the help of numerous volunteers who have the same interest in supporting the community, strengthen relationships, and getting involved. We hope you will be able to join a special event team!

Volunteers like you will be valuable for special events like:

Movie in the Park

In the Summer-Experience an old fashioned drive in movie, without vehicles. Come volunteer at this event with a family friendly show and 1,900 of your community friends! Volunteer positions range from  activity leader, info booth  to set up and the o’ so fun task of “picking up the trash.” Can’t wait to see you there!

Turkey Trot

The Corvallis Turkey Trot is a 10K, 5K, or 1K Little Gobbler’s walk/run on Thanksgiving morning. Volunteer positions range from helping with packet pickup in the days leading to the event, parking patrol, course monitor, water station, and of course the o’ so fun task of “picking up the trash”. Come help the community burn some calories before that tasty thanksgiving meal!

Oregon Senior Games

Oregon Senior Games offer the camaraderie and challenge of competitive sports to older adults and promote health, well-being and active aging among participants. It’s never too late to get active and try something new. Many Senior Games participants didn’t start competing in sports until their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.   This event is hosted over 3 weekends in August.  Join us in supporting these inspiring adults.

 

 

Planet Palooza

Join the fun at this annual Earth Day Celebration. Hosted at Corvallis Community Center and Chintimini Park, we have a procession of the species, resource fair, music, crafts and so much fun!

Avery Recreation - Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) Program

Are you a youth between the ages of 11-18 interested in volunteering with us?

Corvallis Parks and Recreation's Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) program provides school year and summer volunteer opportunities for youth ages 11-18. Projects feature icebreakers, service learning, and reflections to encourage teambuilding and critical thinking among volunteers.

Avery Recreation Volunteer Opportunities

Special Events

Join our Special Events team to stay informed about any event volunteer opportunities that we have throughout the year!

Special Events occur periodically throughout the year. Avery Recreation Events may include Planet Palooza, Penny Carnival, Art in the Park, the Children's Halloween Party, and more. There are a variety of volunteer needs at these events such as setting up and tearing down event materials, guiding guests, serving food/drink, running activities, and more. 

The Special Events team is a great option for anyone who wants a more infrequent volunteer commitment, as our events are spread out throughout the year. Although we always welcome returning event volunteers! With larger special events, we may also be in need of group volunteers.

Skills: Special events have several needs, so skillset required will vary. No matter what your skills, events team has a place for you to serve the community without an ongoing time commitment.

Youth Lacrosse Coach

Become a youth lacrosse coach this season!

Enthusiastic volunteers needed to coach youth lacrosse for boys and girls grades 3-8. 

Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of lacrosse, desire to work with youth and ability to model positive behavior & sportsmanship, ability to plan and conduct detailed practices & drills, and great communication

Time commitment: Early March-early June; practices occur Mondays & Fridays from 4:30-6:00; games are on Saturdays (timing varies)

Requirements: Cleared background check & brief interview with Eva Daliana or Program Assistant

Youth Basketball Coach - Elementary Program

Become a youth basketball coach!

Volunteers needed to coach youth basketball in our Elementary Program for CO-ED teams, grades 2-5.

Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of basketball, desire to work with youth and ability to model positive behavior & sportsmanship, ability to plan & conduct practices and coach games, and great communication skills

Time commitment: January 22-March 14, 2024

Practices occur one afternoon a week and you can choose your practice day as long as gym is not full. Practice times are Monday-Thursday, 2:45-4:15pm/Friday, 1:45-3:15pm.

Games are on Saturdays (timing varies)

Requirements: Must attend Coach Orientation, have cleared background check & brief interview with Eva Daliana, Recreation Coordinator

Youth Basketball Coach - Middle School Program

Become a youth basketball coach for middle schoolers!

Volunteers needed to coach youth basketball in our Middle School Program for boys and girls, grades 6-8

Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of basketball, desire to work with youth and ability to model positive behavior & sportsmanship, ability to plan & conduct practices and drills, and great communication skills

Time commitment: Saturday Camp from February 10-March 16, 2024

Practices are each Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00am, with formal scrimmage time from 10:00-10:30am after practice.

Requirements: Must attend Coach Orientation, have cleared background check & brief interview with Eva Daliana, Recreation Coordinator

Teach youth grades K-1 the basics of basketball!

The Intro to Basketball program is a Saturday only program for grades K-1. Volunteers needed to coach - Elementary Program coaches are encouraged to coach in both programs if they wish.

Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of basketball, desire to work with youth and ability to model positive behavior & sportsmanship, ability to plan & conduct practices and drills, and great communication skills

Time commitment: Saturday mornings from February 10-March 16, 2024

Practices run 9:00-10:00am.

Requirements: Must attend Coach Orientation, have cleared background check & brief interview with Eva Daliana, Recreation Coordinator

Youth Flag Football Coach

Become a Flag Football Coach and share your passion for the game!

Volunteers needed to coach flag football - two age groups available:

  • Grades K - 2 an introductory program teaching basic skills utilizing the GAMES method. Smaller balls and fields help the participant learn how to play the game, and we teach the basics of football with drills, games and short scrimmages. 
  • Grades 3 - 5 are more advanced. Coaches teach the skills of each sport at a higher lever with drills that are more advanced, games and scrimmages.  

Desired Skills: Basic knowledge of flag football, desire to work with youth and be a role model, ability to conduct practices and drills, and great communication skills

Time commitment: Early October - mid-November, Saturday mornings at Crystal Lakes Sports Complex

  • Grades K - 2 practices: 9:00-10:00am
  • Grades 3 - 5 practices: 10:00-11:30am

Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC)

Youth Volunteer Corps (ages 11 - 18 only)

The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) is an award-winning, year-round program of community volunteer activities designed by teens for teens. YVCs works to address community needs and inspire youth for a lifetime commitment to service. Past projects have benefited local community gardens, Habitat for Humanity, Safe Haven Humane Society, and more. YVC is open to anyone age 11 - 18; new volunteers are always welcome.  Applications are accepted year-round as well; to get started complete and return your application to our Avery Park office.
