Seniors in Motion Mission Statement

The Flower Mound Senior Center dignifies seniors with a safe and caring environment, creative and inclusive programs, and thoughtful resources that promote health, well-being, fellowship, and involvement.

Volunteer Opportunities

Instructors

Volunteers interested in teaching a class at the Senior Center must meet with the Senior Center Manager for approval. Classes and topics should be inclusive, allowing all members to participate. The Senior Center will promote all classes in its bi-monthly newsletter and on the Seniors In Motion online calendar. Instructors are responsible for preparing handouts, which must be approved in advance, and will need to set up and clean up after their classes, with assistance available upon request.

Front Desk

Front desk volunteers play a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere by greeting visitors with a friendly smile and answering questions about programs. Responsibilities include answering phones, giving tours, and ensuring members scan their membership cards upon entry. Volunteers will assist with class registrations and new memberships but should not handle any money. They must also maintain professionalism at all times, alerting staff to any issues or complaints.

SIM Ambassador

Volunteers serve as friendly faces in the Senior Center, greeting visitors and guiding them to programs or activities. They provide brief introductions and tours of the facility, host special events, and promote upcoming activities. Additional tasks may include light office work such as making copies, filing, and keeping public areas tidy, along with demonstrating how to use the town’s online registration system

Kitchen & Food Service

Volunteers in the kitchen will assist with meal preparation and service during lunch events. Responsibilities include dishing food, serving trays, preparing utensils, and washing dishes. Volunteers must adhere to kitchen safety protocols, including proper hygiene and wearing gloves while serving food. They are invited to enjoy leftover food after all paid meals are served, but they must not use pantry items without approval from staff

Coffee Café

Volunteers in the Coffee Café will ensure that coffee and snack supplies are fully stocked and organized. They will brew coffee, monitor inventory, and maintain cleanliness by washing pots and cups. It is essential for volunteers to follow hygiene protocols, including handwashing and hair management, while using pantry supplies only with staff approval.

Special Events

Volunteers are essential for the successful execution of special events held throughout the year. Shifts typically last 1-2 hours and involve various tasks such as setting up, serving food, and cleaning up afterward. Volunteers must not turn away guests and should avoid soliciting donations, ensuring that all attendees feel welcomed and valued.

Committees

The Senior In Motion program features several volunteer-run committees focusing on different areas, including the sunshine committee and decoration committee. Participation in committee activities, such as attending meetings and assisting with event preparations, is recognized as volunteer work. Committees require prior approval from Senior Center staff for hours to be counted.

50/50 Raffle Sales

Volunteers are needed for 50/50 raffle sales on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with each shift running from 10:30 a.m. to noon. They will handle cash boxes, sell tickets, and manage the raffle process, ensuring that participants receive their tickets. At the end of each sale, volunteers will divide the proceeds and distribute prizes, while always reporting back to staff.

Bingo

Bingo volunteers assist during Cash Bingo, Treasure Bingo, and Potluck Bingo events. Responsibilities include calling numbers, setting out prizes, and managing ticket sales. Volunteers must be clear and engaging while calling bingo, ensuring that all game rules are followed and that records of winners are kept for staff.

Donations

Volunteers oversee the management of year-round donations, ensuring that items are delivered to designated donation centers like the CCA Food Pantry and the Flower Mound Library. This role is vital for maintaining the flow of donations to those in need, fostering community support and engagement.
