Harm Minimisation Volunteer

About the role

As a Harm Minimisation Volunteer you will be working alongside the harm min lead, duty worker and the team as a whole to help reduce health, social and economic harms to individuals and the wider community. Volunteers in this role help to provide 1-1 harm minimisation information and advice to our clients as well as taking part in community based awareness events. 

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • Minimum 4 hours per week, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Providing support in the running of a needle exchange program, providing information and practical support in regards to needle syringe programme (NSP). This includes providing the required equipment and other such paraphernalia. 

  • Providing information on how to access local harm reduction services, including the location of nearest NSP in community provisions such as pharmacy. 

  • Providing information in regards to Blood Borne Virus’s, (BBV) encouraging regular screening and where appropriate carrying out relevant testing and promoting Hep B vaccinations, and making relevant in house appointments.

  • Providing information including but not exclusive to risks associated with poly drug use and current health warnings, drug alerts and advice around contaminated drugs and high risk behaviours

  • Helping to train people in using nasal and injectable naloxone. As well as supplying Naloxone kits to appropriate individuals/carers etc

  • Helping to conduct drug testing to assist our clinical team’s assessments and reviews. 

  • Supporting staff with the preparation, planning & delivery of specific interventions sessions.

  • Supporting staff in providing information on drug and alcohol use and treatment to the general public at community events.

Group Support Volunteer

About the role

As a Group Support Volunteer you will be working alongside our Group Facilitators to help our clients engage with and participate in a variety of recovery based groups and activities. 

We have a range of group opportunities and would like for you to help shape the delivery of these sessions to the individuals we support

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • Minimum 3 hours per week, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Group Work Facilitator to deliver group sessions

  • Promoting groups that are available in the service

  • Supporting and encouraging individuals to participate in group activities

  • Supporting staff with the preparation and planning of new groups

  • Recording group attendees and liaising with Recovery Workers in supporting the individual needs of the group attendees.

 

What skills will you need?

  • A friendly, positive and approachable manner

  • Ability to work with people in a non-judgmental and solution-focused way 

  • Ability to deliver key messages in a group setting

  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team

  • Ability to empathise with the challenges faced by the people using our services

  • Able to follow instructions and act on own initiative within set boundaries

  • Good command of the English Language both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality

  • Lived experience of drug and/or alcohol journey(s) is not required but people who have lived experience are encouraged to apply

Community Events Volunteer

About the role

As a Community Event Volunteer you will work alongside staff and other Volunteers to help deliver a variety of events to help raise awareness of the THRIVE partnership and the service that it provides to the local community. In doing so volunteers will help to promote service provision, challenge stigma and advocate recovery within community based settings. 

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • As required (ad hoc events throughout the year) 

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supporting with the preparation and planning of community based events 

  • Preparing materials for community based events

  • Helping to set up and clear down stalls

  • Providing information regarding the THRIVE partnership to members of the community as well as professionals 

  • Representing ‘With You’, and the THRIVE partnership in a professional manor, advocating service support, reducing stigma and prompting recovery

 

What skills will you need?

  • Ability to work with people in a non-judgmental way and offer a can do approach 

  • To be professional and respectful towards others, delivering professional interactions

  • Ability to work on your feet and outdoors on occasions for long periods

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality

  • Able to work independently, as well as part of a team

Young Persons Support Volunteer

About the role

As a Young Persons Support Volunteer you will be working alongside the young people team to help our clients engage with the service, as well as providing community awareness sessions, community promotion events.  

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • Redcar and Cleveland
  • Minimum 3 hours per week, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Providing information and advice to young people on the risk and harms associated with illicit substance use

  • Supporting the development and facilitation of positive activities and community awareness sessions with and for young people

  • Where appropriate, supporting staff with outreach to deliver home visits, school and community presentations 

  • Where it may be required and defined by your role manager, recording notes and client interactions on our case management system

  • Providing information and supporting clients to engage with Harm Minimisation support 

  • Helping to train people in using nasal and injectable naloxone, supplying kits to appropriate individuals/carers etc

 

What skills will you need?

Administration Support Volunteer

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and use your administrative skills to support the day-to-day work of the Administration team in our Redcar service. As part of the team you will provide a warm and friendly welcome to clients and visitors to the service to ensure a good first impression is made.

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • 161 High Street, Redcar, TS10 3AN  
  • Minimum of 3 hours per week within 9-5pm, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the administrative team with their tasks, including scanning, copying and filing

  • Supporting the staff on Reception to help create a welcoming and professional atmosphere for visitors and the people using our service

  • Welcoming clients and visitors on arrival

  • Supporting  the screening of phone calls to ensure they get to the correct team or most appropriate member of staff

  • Actively promote and be part of developing recovery activities and events

  • Providing notes of sessions to be input onto a case management system
