Discovery Center, Heritage Museum, and Cultural Arts Events

Play Frisco’s Cultural Affairs Division is the City of Frisco’s hub for public art, community events, and organizational support for the cultural sector. Cultural Affairs volunteers serve at Frisco Discovery Center’s performance spaces and art galleries and the Frisco Heritage Museum. Most positions have an age requirement of 16 years or older. We do offer a few volunteer opportunities for 15-year-olds during our special events.

Second Saturdays - Frisco Heritage Museum Event

Guests will play historically at the Frisco Heritage Center every second Saturday of the month. With new themes and activities each month, visitors will find new ways to play every time. They can explore the museum, tour historic homes, watch a live blacksmith demonstration, have fun with a hands-on activity, and more. Volunteers will assist with event set up, clean up, and a variety of activities. 

Memento Mori Reception - Frisco Discovery Center Event - Nov.

Celebrate Hispanic heritage and artwork by supporting the reception event for the group art show in the Grand Gallery! We need help setting up for the event, greeting guests, assisting with refreshments, and providing overall event support for this annual gallery exhibition and reception. Wear comfortable, business casual clothing. Signups will open about 2-3 weeks prior to the event. 

Shawnee Trail Cowboy Day - Frisco Heritage Museum Event - Sept.

Volunteer with the Frisco Heritage Association at their annual Shawnee Trail Cowboy Day! This celebration gives visitors a glimpse of what life was like along the Shawnee Trail in the days before modern conveniences. This year's event features perennial favorites and new activities for the entire family, including:

Heritage Halloween - Frisco Heritage Museum Event - Oct.

Walnut's Wassail Walk - Frisco Heritage Museum Event - Dec

Walnut’s Wassail Walk volunteers will assist with performers, crafts, and help spread holiday cheer. This festive holiday event features live music by Max and Heather Stalling in the chapel, local arts groups, holiday-themed activities, free treats, and hot wassail. Plus, Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a special appearance, presented by the Heritage Association of Frisco.

Wassail is a beverage made from hot mulled cider mixed with spices. People would drink it as a part of wassailing. This ancient English Yuletide tradition involved door-to-door charity giving and salutations. It was also used to ensure a good harvest the following year. Signups are posted about two weeks prior to the event. 

En Plein Air - Arts and Culture Special Event

In collaboration with the Visual Arts Guild of Frisco, Play Frisco is proud to present En Plein Air Frisco — where art, nature, and community meet! Artists paint outdoors for three days and nights at several city parks.

Blackland Prairie - Frisco Heritage Museum Event - Spring

Blackland Prairie Day is a celebration of all things Blackland Prairie. Families of all ages can visit the Frisco Heritage Center for activities centered around the Blackland Prairie of Texas from 10-11 a.m. The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center will be presenting in the Depot from 11:15 a.m. - 12 p.m. featuring three incredible birds of prey found in North Texas.

Volunteers will help with different activity stations throughout the event. This event is held annually in the spring. Volunteer signups are posted about 2 weeks prior to the event. 

Teddy Bear Picnic - Frisco Heritage Museum Event - Spring

Children ages 3 to 6 years old will go on an adventure with Cotton, the history-loving teddy bear, at the Frisco Heritage Museum’s Teddy Bear Picnic! This special event is held in the spring and hosted by the Heritage Association of Frisco. This 'bear-y' fun event will feature story time, hands-on activity stations, a Teddy bear Parade, and much more! Volunteers are needed to help assist with the different activities and crafts. Signups will open about 2-3 weeks prior to the event. 

Frisco International Arts and Culture Festival - Arts and Culture Special Event

Celebrate our diverse culture and community spirit at the inaugural Frisco International. Guests can enjoy cultural performances, as well as food and unique wares from around the world. We invite you to be a part of this unique experience and come along side us to help with event set up, line monitoring, and event clean up. Volunteer signups will be posted in the spring. 

Tabletop Adventures - Frisco Discovery Center Event - Spring and Summer

Volunteer with us for a day of tabletop role-playing games for the public! You'll help scan tickets, greet guests, assist with event setup, observe the games and help with refreshments. Wear comfortable, business casual clothing. Signups will open about 2-3 weeks prior to the event.

Play Frisco, the city's Parks and Recreation Department, has many one-time volunteer opportunities with our various events and festivals throughout the year. Learn a little more about these events below and mark your calendars to join us at the next one!  All volunteers must submit an application to get started!

Paws in the Pool - September

Love dogs? Play Frisco – Parks and Recreation has a fun opportunity for you! We need help during our annual, much anticipated Paws in the Pool event for Frisco's favorite canine friends. All volunteers will need to be comfortable in water, interacting and cleaning up after all sizes and breeds of dogs, and communicating with dog owners. 

There will be three different shifts to choose from and the opportunity to work with small and medium dogs or large dogs. Volunteer signups are posted in August. We hope you can join us.  

 

Frisco Camp Out - October

Only a few volunteers are needed for this opportunity to assist with an outdoor, one-night camping event with activities that blend outdoor fun and relaxation. Volunteers will assist with set up or clean up, sign in, crafts and other family-friendly activities. Volunteer signups are posted 2-3 weeks prior to the event.

Pumpkin Dunk - October

We are excited for the return of the Pumpkin Dunk. Children can swim and "pick" a pumpkin from our floating pumpkin patch and then paint and decorate it! Volunteers will assist children at the painting/decorating station, help pass out candy and monitor the face painting line. Signups are posted in early October.    

Frosty 5K - December

Join Frosty and friends at Simpson Plaza for our annual 5K! Volunteers are needed for a variety of opportunities including, but not limited to: packet pick up, event-set up, participant check-in, water station attendants, course monitors, and awards/refreshments help. Volunteer signups are posted in November.

  • 7:30 p.m.  Children's activities and Holiday Gift Market closes.

Santa is polishing his sleigh, making his list and checking it twice as he prepares to make his annual journey to the City of Frisco’s Merry Main Street celebration, a festival which kicks off the city’s holiday season on Saturday, Dec. 6. Volunteer signups are posted in November.

Daddy Daughter Dance - February

The daddy daughter dance is a special night for young girls and their grownups. We invite you to be a part of the magic and help us create a wonderful evening full of lasting memories for dads and daughters. We'll have many opportunities for you to make an impact including assembling party favors, helping decorate the grand ballroom, monitoring decor and various lines during the event, passing out programs, cleaning up between dances and helping prepare for the next dance, greeting guests, and passing out programs and party favors. Volunteer signups are posted in January. 

High Tops & High Heels - February

The High Tops & High Heels is a special night for moms and their sons. We invite you to be a part of the magic and help us create a wonderful evening full of lasting memories. We'll have many opportunities for you to help including assembling party favors, helping decorate the event space, greeting guests, monitoring decor and various lines during the event, passing out programs and party favors, and helping clean up after the dance. Aqua Egg Hunt - April

Volunteer Age Qualification: Must be 15 years or older. Make sure your age qualifications are up to date in your profile. 

The Aqua Egg Hunt is a Frisco Athletic Center tradition for children ages 2-10! Splashing in the water and scooping up floating eggs is how we do an egg hunt Play Frisco style. We need your help to scan tickets, hand out egg collection bags, pass out and restock life jackets, distribute goody bags, and monitor the Easter Bunny photo booth line. Volunteer signups are posted in March.

MLB Pitch, Hit & Run - June

Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run events provide boys and girls ages 7-14 an opportunity to showcase their baseball and softball skills and earn a chance to attend and compete for a Championship during the MLB World Series. We need your help to make it happen. Volunteers will help keep stats and retrieve softballs/baseballs in the outfield. This event takes place outdoors in direct sunlight. Volunteer signups are posted in June. 

Frisco Freedom Fest - July

July 3 & July 4

The city of Frisco’s official two-day Independence Day celebration honors our veterans and military heroes, provides unique experiences for play, and hosts one of the largest firework finales in North Texas! Volunteers will have many opportunities to serve this community for Freedom Fest on both days. Shifts range from helping with poster distribution and various support during the 5K on July 3 to event setup, welcoming guests at the shuttle stop, and helping oversee the different attractions in the Children's Expo on July 4. Volunteer signups are posted in June.

Adult Library Volunteers 18+
The Frisco Library is seeking active, highly motivated adult volunteers who want to develop their customer service skills and share their talents with the library. Browse our volunteer opportunities below. Only submit an application if you are 18 years old or older. Once your application is accepted, you'll be able to see and sign up for shifts. 

Teen Library Volunteers
Our VolunTEEN program is full. Please do not submit an application. The application found on this page is for 18+ ADULTS ONLY.  We have two different applications for our middle school and high school students interested in joining the VolunTEEN program. The links for these applications will be posted here in the spring of 2025. See below to learn more about our VolunTEEN program. If you are 14 years old or older, you may still apply to volunteer in other service areas such as Events, Festivals, and Special Programs, among others.

The library hosts different programs and special events throughout the year such as Summer Cinema, Family Science Night, Monday Mindstretchers, FrisCON, author meet and greets, and so much more. We need your help to supervise the event space, track attendance, and assist staff and guests as needed. The Grove at Frisco Commons is privileged to have adult volunteers partner with staff to provide the highest level of customer service. The time, skills, and talents generously shared by you make Frisco's active adult center an even greater place for our members. Volunteers assist with light kitchen cleaning and organizing, help with laundry duties, and support daily setup, prep, and cleanup.
