We have many exciting volunteer opportunities at Atrium Health Hospice and Palliative Care Cabarrus to allow every volunteer to share their unique talents in a meaningful way.  Your volunteer participation will make a difference for our patients and care teams. We have everything from greeters to patient companions to pet therapy teams and much more! You can read more about some of our volunteer opportunities below.

Hospice is a special way of caring for people who are living with a life-limiting illness as well as their families and caregivers. At Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care Cabarrus, our goal is to help people live their last days as comfortably as possible, surrounded by family and friends.

What are your specific areas of interest?

Crafting

Do you enjoy sewing, knitting, crocheting, or simple creative projects? We are looking for volunteers to help make small comfort items for our hospice patients—such as blankets, cards, and seasonal crafts. Projects can be done from home, and all skill levels are welcome.

If you enjoy socializing while you craft, please join us the first and third Thursday each month to crochet or knit with our Lively Loopers! The group meets in the Community Room at our offices at 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.

Hospice Patient Facing Roles
Direct Patient Care Volunteers provide non‑clinical support to hospice patients and their caregivers. This role focuses on companionship, simple activities, and offering caregiver relief so loved ones can rest.
Volunteers do not perform any medical tasks or hands‑on personal care. A caring presence, good listening skills, and reliability are what matter most.

Pet Program

Our Pet Program brings comfort, companionship, and moments of joy to patients and families during their hospice journey. Specially trained volunteer pets and handlers visit patients to offer gentle affection, reduce stress, and create meaningful connections. These visits can brighten spirits, ease loneliness, and provide a calming presence when it’s needed most. Through this program, we honor the healing power of the human‑animal bond and strive to enhance quality of life in every stage of care.

If you have a pet who is well suited for this program, please apply to learn more.

Pets must be up to date on vaccinations and are required to be certified by an outside agency prior to beginning visits.

Interlude Music Program
Our volunteer musicians share calming melodies at our Tucker House inpatient unit, helping to reduce stress, ease anxiety, and create moments of connection during the hospice journey. Whether through gentle vocals or soft instrumental music, these visits bring a sense of serenity and enhance quality of life in meaningful ways.

Fundraising & Special Events
Fundraising and Special Events Volunteers play an important role in supporting our mission by helping create memorable, successful events throughout the year. This team assists with activities such as event set‑up and breakdown, guest check‑in, hospitality, and onsite support for special initiatives—including our annual Golf Tournament.  Volunteers may also help with sponsorship outreach, event logistics, and other tasks that contribute to a smooth and enjoyable experience for participants.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy teamwork, engaging with the community, and contributing to meaningful events that directly support our programs and services.

Office Support/Administrative

Volunteers do amazing work behind the scenes to help many departments with special projects such as creating patient education folders, helping staff phones, stocking items, or assisting with computer projects. We'll help you find the right project work that interests you!

Community Advisory Board

We invite you to support our mission by serving on one of our fundraising event committees. Volunteers play a vital role in making our events successful and impactful for the patients and families we serve.

As a committee member, you may help to:

✅ Plan and organize event logistics and details
✅ Identify and secure sponsors
✅ Recruit event participants and attendees
✅ Procure auction items and in-kind donations
