The Pleasanton Reads Project

What is The Pleasanton Reads Project?

The Pleasanton Reads Project provides instruction in basic literacy and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) through free weekly tutoring and/or ESL Conversation Practice Groups for eligible adults.

Volunteering with The Pleasanton Reads Project - ages 18+

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference? New residents need help with English skills to participate fully in our society. Enjoy this meaningful and interesting volunteer job and give a priceless, life-changing gift to learners in our diverse community!

Pleasanton Library's Adult Literacy Program will train you to help adults improve their English skills. Attend a tutor training and orientation at the Pleasanton Library. No advance preparation is necessary.

We welcome all volunteers; our tutors come from all over the world. If English is not your native language we ask that you speak with no more than a light accent for ease in communicating with your student. Familiarity with American culture is equally important.

Most tutors meet with their students once a week for 90 minutes; the library supplies tutoring materials at no cost to participants.

City of Pleasanton: Alviso Adobe Community Park

Welcome to the Alviso Adobe volunteer page!

Pleasanton's Alviso Adobe Community Park is a unique historical resource that tells the story of California from its earliest human occupation, dating back to 3420 B.C.  From its ealiest recorded human habitation as a settlement of the native Ohlone Indians, to the days of the Spanish ranchos, to the turn of the century when it was home to one of California's first certified dairies, original portions of each historical period have been left intact.

The focus of Alviso Adobe Community Park is to provide education to the community through interpretive programs that highlight the rich cultural and natural history of the property.
