What is The Pleasanton Reads Project?

The Pleasanton Reads Project provides instruction in basic literacy and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) through free weekly tutoring and/or ESL Conversation Practice Groups for eligible adults.

Volunteering with The Pleasanton Reads Project - ages 18+

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference? New residents need help with English skills to participate fully in our society. Enjoy this meaningful and interesting volunteer job and give a priceless, life-changing gift to learners in our diverse community!

Pleasanton Library's Adult Literacy Program will train you to help adults improve their English skills. Attend a tutor training and orientation at the Pleasanton Library. No advance preparation is necessary.

We welcome all volunteers; our tutors come from all over the world. If English is not your native language we ask that you speak with just a light accent for ease in communicating with your student. Familiarity with American culture is equally important.

Most tutors meet with their students once a week for 90 minutes; the library supplies tutoring materials at no cost to participants.
