Mission Statement

Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program provides services to anyone facing these issues through a 24-hour crisis phone line, emergency shelter, court advocacy, empowerment education, support groups and outreach to underserved populations. Catholic Charities’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program serves nine counties in southwest Iowa: Audubon, Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.

General Interests

DVSART (Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Response Team)

Assist victims seeking medical care as a result of DV/SA by providing support, information and links to community services. Training required and provided by program. On call shifts are after hours and weekends.

About Catholic Charities of Des Moines Emergency Family Shelter

Catholic Charities’ Emergency Family Shelter is devoted to keeping families facing homelessness together during a very difficult time. Our experienced staff understands that homelessness is not a simple issue. While each family is expected to follow the same rules and expectations at the shelter, they are all provided individualized case management. The goal is to help each family leave the shelter with stable housing, financial security and empowerment to live a successful, sustainable life.

Emergency Family Shelter Volunteer Opportunities

Meal Provider

Meal Providers: Volunteers prepare a meal to serve shelter clients for dinner. Needs to feed up to 35 people. To apply for this opportunity, select "Fill in an application" on the right side of the screen.
