Tech Help Tutors
Hennepin County Library is looking for volunteers to assist library patrons (primarily adults and seniors) with their computer and technology questions during Tech Help Tutor programs at multiple library locations. The service helps patrons improve their basic computer/smart device and job search skills through one-to-one assistance.
Locations in need:
- Hopkins Library located at 22 11th Ave N, Hopkins MN 55343. Shifts available on Friday mornings.
- Maple Grove Library located at 8001 Main Street North Maple Grove, MN 55369. Shifts available on Wednesday nights 5:00pm-7:00pm or 6:00pm-8:00pm.
- North Regional Library located at 1315 Lowry Ave. N. Minneapolis, MN 55411. Shifts available on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday afternoon.
- Rockford Road Library located at 6401 42nd Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55427. Two hour shifts available Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon. Evening shifts available Tuesday and Thursday. Morning shifts available on Monday, Friday, and Saturday.
- Webber Park Library located at 4440 Humboldt Ave. N. Minneapolis, MN 55412. Shifts available at Webber Park on Wednesday or Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
In this volunteer role, you will:
- Assist patrons with logging in and navigating a computer or smart device (smartphone, tablet, e-reader).
- Help patrons securely navigate the internet (connecting to Wi-Fi, sign up for online accounts, login to email or social media account, and changing passwords).
- Assist patrons with common software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
- Guide patrons in using library resources/technology (like e-books/printers/scanners)
- Support patrons with job search assistance: resumes, searching the internet for jobs, and job applications.
Need to Have: The ability to communicate with a wide range of people and be able to break down technology and job-related topics in an accessible way.
Nice to Have: A basic understanding of technology or willingness to learn as you go, including navigating smart devices (smart phones, e-readers, tablets) and common software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, etc. The ability to speak another language in addition to English.
Training provided by Program Coordinator, and supervision by designated Hennepin County Library staff member.
