Tech Help Tutors

Hennepin County Library is looking for volunteers to assist library patrons (primarily adults and seniors) with their computer and technology questions during Tech Help Tutor programs at multiple library locations. The service helps patrons improve their basic computer/smart device and job search skills through one-to-one assistance.
Participating Libraries in need of Tech Help Tutors:
- Brooklyn Park Library located at 8500 West Broadway Avenue. Two-hour shifts available on Mondays between 3pm - 6pm, on Wednesdays 3pm - 6 pm, and on Thursdays 3pm - 6 pm.
- Franklin Library located at 1314 East Franklin Ave. Minneapolis, MN 55404. One Two-hour shift available on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday between 2pm - 5pm.
- Golden Valley Library located at 830 Winnetka Avenue North Golden Valley , MN 55427. One Two-hour shift available on Mondays, Noon -2pm.
- Hosmer Library located at 347 East 36th Street Minneapolis, MN 55408. Two-hour shifts available on Sundays between noon - 5pm. Periodically check high tech need areas: adult computers, printer and copier area, for patrons.
- Maple Plain Library located at 5184 Main Street East Maple Plain, MN 55359. Two-hour shifts available on Tuesdays at 2pm.
- Minneapolis Central Library located at 300 Nicollet Mall Minneapolis, MN 55401. Two-hour shifts available Tuesdays 11am - 1pm, Wednesdays 2pm - 5pm, and Thursdays 2pm - 5pm. Flexible hours TBD upon request.
- Rockford Road Library located at 6401 42nd Avenue North Crystal , MN 55427 Two-hour shifts available Mondays between noon and 5pm, Tuesdays between Noon - 8pm, Wednesdays between Noon – 6pm, Fridays between 11am - 5pm, or Sundays Noon - 5pm.
- Sumner Library located at 611 Van White Memorial Boulevard Minneapolis, MN 55411 Two-hour shifts available Fridays Noon - 2pm.
In this volunteer role, you will:
- Assist patrons with logging in and navigating a computer or smart device (smartphone, tablet, e-reader).
- Help patrons securely navigate the internet (connecting to Wi-Fi, sign up for online accounts, login to email or social media account, and changing passwords).
- Assist patrons with common software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
- Guide patrons in using library resources/technology (like e-books/printers/scanners)
- Support patrons with job search assistance: resumes, searching the internet for jobs, and job applications.
Need to Have: The ability to communicate with a wide range of people and be able to break down technology and job-related topics in an accessible way.
Nice to Have: A basic understanding of technology or willingness to learn as you go, including navigating smart devices (smart phones, e-readers, tablets) and common software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, etc. The ability to speak another language in addition to English.
Training provided by Program Coordinator, and supervision by designated Hennepin County Library staff member.
