Materials Handling Opportunities
Current location(s) in need:
- Golden Valley Library located at 830 Winnetka Avenue North Golden Valley, MN 55427. Two-hour shifts available on Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays between the hours of Noon and 4pm.
- Hosmer Library located at 347 East 36th Street Minneapolis, MN 55408 is looking for help shelving, weekly for two-hour shifts. Mondays or Sundays. Schedules flexible during open business hours.
Materials handling general duties:
Materials Handling Volunteers play an important role in assisting library staff maintain the collection and ensure that materials are available and accessible to our community. Examples of duties may include:
- Sort and shelve library materials
- Pull requested titles from shelves using provided reports
- Straighten and organize books on shelves
- Withdraw items from the collection using designated process
- Place collected reserved items into bins for delivery
- Help with special projects as needed
Applicants need to have:
- Attention to detail
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks
- Ability to work independently
- Commitment to attend all required training sessions

Available to volunteer for a minimum of 6-12 months following training (flexible scheduling for short-term tasks)
Training & Support:
Training by Library staff; Supervision by designated Hennepin County Library staff person.
