Materials handling general duties:

Materials Handling Volunteers play an important role in assisting library staff maintain the collection and ensure that materials are available and accessible to our community. Examples of duties may include:

  • Sort and shelve library materials
  • Pull requested titles from shelves using provided reports
  • Straighten and organize books on shelves
  • Withdraw items from the collection using designated process
  • Place collected reserved items into bins for delivery
  • Help with special projects as needed

Applicants need to have:

  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow direction
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work independently
  • Commitment to attend all required training sessions
  • Available to volunteer for a minimum of 6-12 months following training (flexible scheduling for short-term tasks)

Training & Support: 

Training by Library staff; Supervision by designated Hennepin County Library staff person.
