Adult Tutoring

 

 

Hennepin County Library is looking for volunteers for our Adult Tutoring Program. Volunteers will provide tutoring and assistance to adult learners with basic level reading, writing, math, and English language. The service helps adult learners achieve their literacy and Adult Basic Education goals through one-to-one assistance.

 

Locations in need:

1.) North Regional Library Thursday 5:30-7:30 p.m., starting January 2026

2.) Franklin Library Saturdays, 10am - Noon, starting January 2026

 

Expectation:

  • Be available each week for a two-hour window during program time

 

In this volunteer role, you will:

  • Communicate with adult learners about their literacy goal for the tutoring session and spend a maximum of 45 minutes reaching this goal.
  • Work with adult learners to complete assignments that they bring in. Assignment levels may range from 8th grade to community college.
  • In the case where an adult comes in without an existing assignment, library materials may be used to practice a desired subject or skill.

 

Need to Have: The ability to communicate with a wide range of adult learners and work with them to understand foundational reading, writing, math, and English language.

Nice to Have: Experience providing Adult Basic Education tutoring.

*Required training is provided by library staff and through Literacy Minnesota.
