Recreation and Occupational Therapy Services Volunteer

POSITION IDENTIFICATION

 

Department: Recreation Services and/or Occupational Therapy

Reports to: Coordinator-Volunteer Services

 

Resource Person: Recreation or Occupational Therapist/Aide or care staff on unit

Location: Long Term & Assisted Living Care Facility and/or Housing - Bethany Care Society

 

SUMMARY

To engage residents/tenants to participate, get individual support if needed, and improve the quality of group programs. This may include but not be limited to recreation events & programs, outings, special events, library programs, outdoor activities, bingo assistant, entertainment, and musicians

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES

 

· Demonstrate awareness and adhere to all Service Excellence Standards, practices and guidelines as outlined in the Volunteer Handbook and Orientation.

· Follow all infection control and health practices/procedures which may include use of PPE and specific screening in an outbreak or pandemic

· Complete education sessions or mandatory reviews as required

· Interact with residents/tenants while supporting, assisting and encouraging them to participate in therapeutic programs, activities, projects or tasks

· Assist staff in planning and delivering recreational/occupational service program activities

· Prepare for the program and porter as necessary

· Tidy and store supplies when done

· Monitor safety of all involved in the use of tools, supplies or equipment

· Wear Bethany Volunteer Photo Identification

· Record volunteer hours

 

ATTRIBUTES/SKILL REQUIREMENT

 

· Ability to socialize with and assist cognitively and/or physically challenged residents/tenants with a variety of skill levels

· Independent, reliable and flexible

· Mature, patient, tolerant and caring

 

TRAINING AND/OR PREPARATION

 

· General Volunteer Orientation

· Security Clearance r

· Standards of Conduct-Confidentiality Agreement

· Consent for Release of Personal Information-Photographs

· Receipt & understanding of Volunteer Handbook

· Two volunteer references

· Dementia Training recommended

· Specific training for position
