Position Title:                 Adult Day Program Volunteer

Volunteer Type:              In-person

Location:                        3333 Finch Ave East -Recreation office & Recreation room.

Hours of Work:              Monday – Friday 9– 12pm & 12:30pm– 3:30pm 

Time Commitment:       minimum 3 hrs./wk. for 3 months

Volunteers Needed:       2

Reports to:                     Day Program Team Lead

 

Position Summary:

To assist the day programs with administrative tasks and providing older adults with aid and information about the different programs/activities available to them.  

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Provide administrative assistance (e.g., photocopying, posting flyers, data entry, typing, filing, organizing space, etc.). 
  • Assist with activity set up and take down (e.g. set up for lunch) 
  • Help older adults with activities in programs (e.g. games, arts and crafts 
  • Create programming with guidance from team leaders  
  • Help notify participants via phone of any program changes. 
  • Help ensure the health and safety of program participants through COVID screening. 
  • Monitor and check cleanliness and quality of equipment  
  • Understand and implement emergency and safety protocols. 

 

Skills & Qualifications:  

  • Able to write, type and speak Mandarin or Cantonese, an asset.  
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Fun loving, outgoing personality. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Respect, patience and understanding of older adults. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, fluency in other languages is an asset. 

 

Working Environment:  

  • Primarily office environment, common facility areas (indoor /outdoor)  
  • Sitting in front of the computer terminal for long periods of time 
  • May have frequent work interruptions 

 

Boundaries/Limitations: 

  • Do not open or try to fix equipment and office machinery.
  • Do not lift a person.

 

Orientation/Training:

  • Volunteer Services will conduct orientation on organization’s policies and procedures, including COVID-19 measures.
  • IPAC Mandatory training for onsite positions – conducted by Volunteer Services
  • Training: Training will be provided, including one-on-one sessions to ensure you are comfortable and confident in the role. 
  • Ongoing Support: Regular check-ins to ensure that volunteers feel supported and can provide feedback.

Other: 

  • Will not lift clients.
  • Will always wear proper non-slip covered shoes.
  • Will always wear personal protective equipment.
  • Vulnerable Service Sector Check screening required. 
  • Proof of full vaccination or Medical Exemption Certificate 
  • Must be 18 years or older
