Volunteer Gardener

If you’re excited to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty while making a positive difference in the community, we’d love to have you as part of our team! We are passionate about creating vibrant, green spaces that bring joy and tranquility to our veterans and seniors. Whether it’s planting herbs in our gardens, maintaining raised flower beds, or caring for our flowers, we believe that gardening is a great way to improve our environment and build connections. As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in helping us maintain and enhance our outdoor spaces. You’ll work alongside our seniors and staff to plant, water, prune, and tend to our gardens, ensuring that they thrive and continue to provide a beautiful, peaceful environment for our seniors. Whether you're experienced with gardening or simply love spending time outdoors, we welcome volunteers of all skill levels to join us!

 

Key responsibilities

  • Help plant flowers, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables, and ensure that they are watered regularly.
  • Assist with weeding, mulching, and trimming plants to keep the garden healthy and looking neat.
  • Maintain plants by cutting back dead foliage and encouraging new growth.
  • You may also help with tasks like lawn mowing, hedge trimming, and general garden cleanup.
  • Encourage seniors to participate, offering guidance or sharing your love of gardening.
  • Provide effective, person centred support in a way that is socially, emotionally and physically safe and respectful for older people and their families. The support offered is irrespective of the person's identity, culture, ability, diversity, beliefs and life experiences..

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make personal connections with senior people, their families, volunteers and staff regardless of cultural backgrounds, beliefs and denominations
  • Be reliable and committed
  • Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or someone with a passion for plants, we’re looking for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and helping things grow.
