Volunteering at RSL LifeCare

Volunteer Visitor

We believe that companionship is one of the most powerful gifts anyone can offer. As a volunteer visitor, you will offer companionship and social support to seniors who may be experiencing isolation due to illness, aging, or other life circumstances. This is a very rewarding role where your time and presence can make a real difference in someone's life.

Key responsibilities

  • Companionship: spend time visiting individuals and offering a friendly conversation. Offer social support as discussed with staff.
  • Active listening: offer a listening ear and be someone people can talk to, whether they need to share their thoughts, memories, or just feel heard.
  • Engagement: depending on the individual’s interests, you may read to them, watch movies together, share stories, or even assist with light activities like puzzles or crafts.
  • Person centred support: provide effective, person centred support in a way that is socially, emotionally and physically safe and respectful for older people and their families. The support offered is irrespective of the person's identity, culture, ability, diversity, beliefs and life experiences.
