Trip Companion
At RSL LifeCare, we believe that everyone, no matter their age or ability, should have the opportunity to enjoy the simple pleasures of life—whether it’s a visit to the shops, a trip to a museum, or a fun outing with friends. To help make this happen, we are looking for compassionate volunteers who are willing to accompany seniors and veterans on various outings. As a Trip Companion Volunteer, you’ll join our seniors and veterans on trips to various locations, offering assistance, companionship, and support throughout the outing. Whether it’s offering a hand during the trip, or providing friendly conversation, you’ll make these outings more enjoyable and accessible for everyone involved.
Key responsibilities
- Provide companionship, accompany individuals on planned trips, offering conversation and ensuring they have an enjoyable time.
- Provide effective, person centred support in a way that is socially, emotionally and physically safe and respectful for older people and their families. The support offered is irrespective of the person's identity, culture, ability, diversity, beliefs and life experiences.
- Assist with any activities or events during the trip (e.g., helping with seating, guiding through exhibits, etc.).
- Keep an eye on safety throughout the trip, ensuring seniors are secure and comfortable at all times
- Encourage participation in the outing and provide a positive, supportive environment for everyone
Personal Qualities & Skills
- Have excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to make personal connections with senior people, their families, volunteers and staff regardless of cultural backgrounds, beliefs and denominations
- Be reliable and committed
