Claims & Advocacy Assistant Volunteer

Support those who served and join our Claims & Advocacy team as a volunteer.

We are seeking dedicated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team. You will be based at one of the RSL LifeCare Veteran and Family Hubs and support our Veteran Services Claims and Advocacy Team. You will facilitate and assist the claims advisors and the veterans with DVA related enquiries and claims. This role is vital in creating a sense of wellbeing, connection and community for our veterans.

If interested, volunteer may also be trained in providing veteran compensation support.  

Key responsibilities 

  • Attend the Veteran and Family Hubs as agreed, this includes training and check-in sessions.
  • Assist claims advisor with claims relevant information assessment, client communication and DVA correspondence for the local area veterans.
  • Maintain client and organisation records as and when required.
  • You must maintain veteran confidentiality at all times, even after you leave your volunteer position
  • Report any concerns to the advisor immediately
  • Enrol in the ATDP level 1 Wellbeing and Compensation combined course

Personal qualities & skills

  • This position requires a regular commitment and would suit someone who is highly dependable and reliable. Non-attendance will have a great impact on our veterans we support so reliability is very important.
  • Be reliable, flexible and committed
  • Basic knowledge of IT equipment including Teams and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Have an interest or personal experience in military service
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to make personal connections with people from different backgrounds
  • Alignment with RSL LifeCare values and willingness to follow policies and procedures
