Rowland Village, Galston - Volunteer Driver
The role of the Volunteer Bus Driver is vital in creating a sense of connection and community for our residents. The volunteer will be responsible for driving the RSL LifeCare bus (with a maximum of 12 passengers including the Bus Driver) for the purpose of transporting clients of RSL LifeCare to a variety of locations.
Main Tasks:
- Collect residents from the specified pick-up point and drive them to the specified venue at a prescribed time
- Ensure seat belts are fastened before driving and offer passengers the opportunity to fasten their own seat belt before helping them
- Ensure that all road and parking rules are obeyed and that passengers alight in a safe area
- Assist frail residents in entering and exiting the bus without bearing weight or lifting and pulling from a seated position as directed by safe manual handling instructions in orientation and by site staff
- If using and RSL LifeCare vehicle, return the bus or car in a tidy state to the RSL LifeCare site
- Report any issues to RSL LifeCare staff
Personal Qualities & Skills:
- Show patience, kindness and empathy for all passengers
- Great interpersonal skills and ability to make personal connections with people from different backgrounds
- Be reliable and committed
- Alignment with the values of RSL LifeCare outlined in Volunteer Handbook
- Hold current Class C driver licence for vans up to 12 passengers (including driver) and a good driving record
- Have sound knowledge of road rules
- Be familiar with the geographic region in which they are driving
