V-Doorways Support Assistant - OzHarvest and Foodbank
The Doorways Support Assistant will be the first person a community member meets when they walk through the door. A smile and tidy area welcomes a community member into a place where they feel safe and accepted. Doorways Support Assistants act in all aspects of material aid emergency relief, offering refreshments, helping with the food pantry and also with the process of providing connection and support.
We are looking for volunteers to assist the OzHarvest and Foodbank programs
Days: Monday and Thursday
Hours: 9:00 am to 12:30 pm - hours can be extended as the doors are open to 4:00 pm but may not be able to meet Centrelink requirements.
Tasks:
- Helping to unload the OzHarvest van, sort goods which includes fruit, vegetables and pantry, and put things away
- taking things to the foyer for community giveaways
- Helping to unload the Foodbank and SecondBite deliveries which includes fruit, vegetables and pantry
- Sorting them between storage and the Hall for Market Day
- Ideally this person would also be available to help pack fruit and vegetables bags, if needed and set up tables for Market Day.
Capabilities and personal attributes:
- Your confidence and interest in meeting new people is essential for this role
- Handling heavy items will require volunteers to understand correct manual handling techniques, wear closed toe, sturdy shoes and to use lifting aids such as trolleys
- Volunteers must be able to self manage
- communicate effectively
- work collaborative with other team members.
Requirements:
- National Police Check
- Working with Children/Vulnerable People Check
The following training is also required:
- Introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices
- Volunteer site and role induction including Introduction to the Doorways Model of Care and other role specific learning such as dealing with difficult people, confidentiality and SAMiS database training.
