Driver - Bus & Car (including use of own vehicle)
1/12 Adelaide road, Gawler
The Volunteer Driver is responsible to provide safe and courteous transport for Beyond Blindness members, including assistance from home to bus and bus to destination when / if required. Any fines incurred will be the responsibility of the driver at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect run list and ensure details of request are fully understood before leaving the office.
- Accurately complete run sheet, volunteer attendance sheet and any other reporting forms as required.
- Ensure office is advised of any changes to member run lists (e.g. cancellations)
- No arrangements are to be made between the volunteer and the client without the knowledge of the office staff.
- Notify office immediately if unable to carry out request giving ample time for replacement to be made unless emergencies
- Ensure all road rules are strictly adhered to
- Accurately follow procedures set down to accident procedure in case of accident or emergency.
- Ensure safety of passengers in the event of a breakdown or flat tyre and notify the office.
- All Beyond Blindness vehicles are non-smoking
- Leave the vehicle adequately refuelled at the end of each day, advise office if you are unable to prior to leaving
- Accurately carry out and complete Daily Vehicle checklist and report any anomalies immediately in the office.
- Do not use mobile phones unless vehicle is stationary
- Ensure familiarity with location and use of all items the vehicles.
- Inform the office using the incident form of any observed risk in any area where service provision is occurring e.g. in vehicle, at client’s premises, at destinations as well as around the organisation’s premises or vehicles
- Satisfactorily pass a driving assessment through Beyond Blindness, prior to commencing this role
- A volunteer will need to undergo another driving assessment if an incident or accident has occurred whilst driving for Beyond Blindness
- Maintain an accurate vehicle log
- If own vehicle is used must be comprehensively insured
- The vehicle must be kept clean when used for carrying members and free of loose objects
- Drive the vehicle according to the current Road Traffic Act
- Report any vehicle damage or maintenance issues promptly
- Escort Members to and from the vehicle as necessary
- Adhere to Beyond Blindness Work, Health & Safety Policy
- Appropriately park and secure vehicle on completion of duties
- Display disabled label appropriately when parked
- Maintain a reasonable standard of person cleanliness and appearance
- Treat members with politeness, courtesy, helpfulness and honesty
