Volunteer Gardener

Summary of Responsibilities

 To provide a gardening support service to GHS, including – weeding, mowing and general light garden maintenance as directed.

 Duties

  • General light garden maintenance

Essential Attributes

  • Trade or gardening background is an advantage
  • Good with hands on work
  • Physically fit
  • Able to work with hand tools and substances related to a gardening role
  • Mature, confident and caring
  • Understanding of Security and safety issues
  • Ability to use initiative and be responsible
  • Flexible in approach and responsive
  • Respect confidentiality and privacy
  • Reliability and honesty
  • An ability and willingness to follow direction
  • A tolerance for activity and a busy workplace
  • Ability to work independently
  • Physically fit to complete tasks required
  • An ability to work in a team based environment

Special Requirements

  •  Attend annual orientation training
  • Attend appropriate OH&S training sessions
  • Attend Cultural Awareness training

Training

Appropriate ongoing training is provided.  

Expectations

  • Work within the guidelines of the GHS Volunteer Program;
  • Be appropriately attired when volunteering for GHS;
  • Follow the directions of the Manager, Volunteer Programs or any other persons who have authorised roles;
  • Respect for patients and confidentiality by maintaining confidentiality at all times (volunteers are not permitted to disclose information about patients under any circumstances);
  • Volunteer are expected to be reliable and to give adequate notice of their inability to attend;
  • Volunteers will stay home if unwell.
  • Volunteer must have or undertake the completion of Aged, Working with Children and NDIS Police clearances (at no cost to you as a volunteer) NOTE: 100 points of ID are required.  To achieve the 100 points, examples: - Birth Certificate / Passport  / Driver’s License or other photo ID. / Bank Card. / Medicare Card /  Centrelink Card / Utilities Account.
  • Volunteers must be up to date with COVID vaccinations, ie double vaccinated plus booster
