Visitor Information Centre - Customer Service Volunteer
The Gawler Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days a week and is staffed by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteers.
Visitor Information Centre Volunteers are the first point of contact for many visitors arriving to Gawler. They are responsible for providing excellence in customer service by using unbiased, appropriate, current and up-to-date visitor information on Gawler, the region and State of South Australia in a professional and friendly manner, irrespective of whether it is in person, by email or by phone.
Duties include:
- Respond to face to face, email and incoming phone enquiries
- Provide high quality customer service, ensuring every visitor to the Centre feels the warmth of our community through professional, accurate and friendly interactions
- Promote all tourism products without bias, letting others know about all the wonderful things there are to see and do in our region and further abroad (accommodation, events, attractions, retail and hospitality)
- Monitor and restock pamphlets, brochures, information and souvenir displays
- Sales of souvenirs and other local products and merchandise
- Processing cash and EFTPOS transactions
- Where applicable, assist with the booking of accommodation, tours and interstate travel
- Carry out opening and closing procedures
- Assist with the general administration requirements for the Visitor Information Centre
- Adhere to the Visitor Information Centre daily task list
Personal Attributes and Skills:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic computing skills
- Comfortable with managing daily financial transactions
- Ability to follow direction and instructions
- Adaptability and willingness to undertake a variety of different tasks (as requested)
- Flexibility in regards to work availability
- A sound knowledge of Gawler and surrounding regions is required
- Reliability, punctuality and self motivation is essential
As part of the registration process all new volunteers are required to receive a corporate induction, program induction and site orientation.
- All volunteers are subject to a three (3) month probationary period
- In addition, all volunteers are required to hold a satisfactory National Police Certificate (NPC) or Department of Human Services (DHS) screening dated less than three years old, prior to the commencement of volunteering.
- If volunteers do not hold either screening, staff will initiate a screening check at no cost to the volunteer.
- Full training is provided
- A minimum of 20 hours of training is required per year (to maintain accreditation status), but can be built into volunteers shifts.
- A uniform will provided following the satisfactory completion of a 3 month probationary period.
The Gawler Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days per week. The shifts are as follows
- Monday to Friday
Morning Shift - 9:15am to 1pm
Afternoon Shift - 1pm to 4:45pm
- Weekend and Public Holidays – 9:15am to 1:15pm
