No Interest Loans (NILs) – Community Partner Volunteer
The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILs) is a Good Shepherd program that provides people and families access to safe, fair and affordable credit, as an alternative to pay-day lenders and rent to buy schemes. Maximum loan amounts are up to $2,000, for essential goods and services. The product has no fees, no charges and no interest.
In South Australia, Good Shepherd advertises for volunteers to be matched with community organisations across the state that support people to submit loan applications. In these roles, volunteers support clients to prepare and submit loan applications, or assist with other NILs loan tasks.
Training is provided by Good Shepherd, and you will receive ongoing support from the partner organisation, who will become your volunteering host.
Minimum commitment: 3 hours per week, long term.
Location: South Australia (various regions)
Key Responsibilities
Each NILs Provider is different and each Volunteer is different. Once linked to a NILs Provider, Volunteers and NILs Providers will work together to determine the best tasks for that person. Some of those tasks may be:
- Assisting with client enquiries and providing general information about NILs.
- Guiding clients on how to obtain relevant documentation for applications.
- Undertaking NILS applications.
- Providing administrative support to the NILS Team.
Personal attributes and skills that may suit this role:
- Clear communication.
- Good people skills.
- Reasonable IT skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy (essential).
- Numerical or financial skills, such as budgeting.
- Being respectful, non-judgemental and inclusive.
You may be asked for any, or all, of the below depending upon the partner organisation:
- A Volunteer Working with Children Check (WWCC).
- A National Police Check.
- Satisfactory completion of an interview and reference checks.
- Completion of various training.
