Volunteer Buddy - Volunteerability

Are you passionate about community inclusion? Are you interested in supporting people with various abilities to volunteer? Become a volunteer buddy to connect with and assist people with all types of disability supporting them to volunteer in meaningful roles.

Various locations including metro Adelaide and regional SA

Up to 15 hours per week

Volunteer buddies required to assist in various aspects of the Volunteerability program to support the promotion, matching and journey of program participants with volunteering opportunities, to increase community inclusion for people with a disability through volunteering.

Personal abilities, aptitudes, skills

  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds, with disabilities or health issues
  • Non-judgemental, respectful and open attitude
  • Proficient verbal communication skills
  • Active listening skills, including empathy, questioning, reflecting and summarising
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively independently and within a small team
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Ability to form good rapport with a diversity of people and collect and share information with clarity, conciseness and courtesy
  • Ability to maintain role boundaries and perform duties professionally
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Openness to learning about the perspectives of people including CALD, LGBTIQ, new migrants, refugees, people with a disability and people with mental health issues
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with use of Microsoft Office suite


Desirable:

  • Experience as a volunteer or knowledge of the volunteering sector
  • Experience in or knowledge of not-for-profit organisations
  • Experience in or knowledge of the Disability sector or working people with disability
  • Keenness to learn more about diversity, supporting people with disability and promoting community inclusion

Standard Conditions

  • All volunteers are required to have a current National Police Clearance (no older than 3 years from issue date).
  • All positions are required to be eligible to work or volunteer in Australia.
  • 3 month trial period catch up meeting applies to all volunteer roles.
  • Annual feedback meetings will be offered.
  • Participation in training is required.
