Gawler Community House

OVERVIEW:

The Gawler Community House relies on volunteers to develop and maintain its kitchen garden and plant propagation areas. These are volunteers who have good gardening knowledge, enjoy gardening, are willing to be a part of a gardening team and operate under the direction of the House Manager and Volunteer coordinator.

GENERAL DUTIES:

• Planting and propagating seeds.  

• Watering and feeding

• Weeding

• Other garden-related duties

OTHER DUTIES THAT MAY BE REQUIRED:

• Attend meetings as required.

• Attend relevant training if required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES:

• General gardening skills

• General knowledge of plants and plant propagation

• Willingness to follow OHSW procedures and wear personal protective equipment/clothing.

• Able to follow directions from staff.

• Able to work unsupervised or as part of a team.

• Willing to learn and share skills.

• Able to use initiative where required and to know the limits of their abilities.

• A pleasant, non-judgemental and empathetic manner.

• Ability to interact appropriately with a diverse range of clients.

• Honesty and trustworthiness.

• Appropriate dress, language and behaviour.

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

• Certificate in Horticulture

TIME COMMITMENT:

• As negotiated. Preferred minimum 1 full day or two half days per week.
