Op Shop - Retail Assistant

The Gawler Community House relies on the Op Shop for much needed income to support its operations. Op Shop volunteers operate under the direction of the Manager/Volunteer Coordinator.

General Duties: 

  • Open the shop and set up according to the procedure
  • Customer Service, Retail Sales
  • Operate Cash Register, Cash Handling
  • Display clothing and other goods
  • Assist with dressing room protocols
  • Greet customers in a friendly manner and assist them with their requirements
  • Promote activities and events of the Community House
  • See daily task sheet for further detailed tasks

Other Duties:

  • Attend meetings as required
  • Attend relevant training as required

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Cash handling skills
  • Honesty and trustworthiness
  • Reasonable knowledge of fashion and the quality/value of items
  • Able to follow instructions
  • Work unsupervised or as part of a team
  • A pleasant non judgmental and empathetic manner
  • Ability to interact appropriately with a diverse range of clients
  • Flexible and quick thinking - able to prioritise tasks
  • Appropriate dress , language and behaviour

Time commitment: As negotiated - minimum 1 full day or 2 half days preferred, 1/2 day may be negotiated

Shop hours are Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 4.00 pm
