North Eastern Cancer Centre Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to provide ward support to the patients in the NECC.
Days: Monday to Friday, negotiable
Times: 10:00am to 2:00pm
Tasks and Duties:
- Assist the families and new patients of chemotherapy/radiation through the process on their first visit to the unit
- Sit with families and patients and inform them of the available facilities in the hospital and in the unit,
- Assist with Tea, coffee and Sandwiches in the chemo unit and in the waiting area, giving patients warm blankets if needed and refilling the blanket warmer.
- Checking that patients have their next appointments booked before leaving.
- Wipe down everything (chair etc) after patient has finished treatment
Other Duties
- Back of house assistance for with miscellaneous tasks such as restocking masks, gloves (PPE) organising trolleys and non-patient contact duties
- Make up oral treatment chemo packs when requested by nursing staff
Other Requirements:
BARE BELOW THE ELBOWS
- Hand and wrist jewellery (including wrist watches and fitness bands) are not to
be worn in the clinical area, with the exception of a medical alert bracelet
and/or a single, plain, non-porous ring. - Long sleeved clothing is not recommended, but if worn needs to be rolled up
above the elbow so as not to interfere with hand hygiene practice. - Nails are to be short, clean and unvarnished.
- Artificial nails are not to be worn
