TUTOR / GROUP FACILITATOR

 

OVERVIEW:

The Gawler Community House provides courses and activities for members of the community. In most instances, these are conducted by skilled volunteers who operate under the direction of the House Manager and Volunteer Coordinator.  Courses can be conducted on a group or one-on-one basis and can be educational or leisure activities.

 

 

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • In conjunction with the House Manager, Volunteer coordinator and members of the Board of Management, develop a program proposal for the course/activity, stating the aims, content and expected outcomes.
  • Prepare materials needed in order to conduct the course/activity, including lesson plan (if required), photocopying hand-outs.
  • Conduct an initial induction with new students as per induction checklist.
  • Conduct course/activity according to program outline, ensuring it meets the needs of all participants.
  • Greet participants as they arrive and ensure they have signed in and paid (if required.)
  • Report any issues or incidents directly to the coordinator.
  • Inform staff if you are unable to attend a class / activity so that alternative arrangements can be made.
  • Undertake an evaluation to gather feedback and determine that the course/activity has met the required outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES THAT MAY BE REQUIRED:

  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Attend relevant training as required.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / ATTRIBUTES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and teach others
  • A sound knowledge of the subject or activity you will be facilitating.
  • Flexible and quick thinking – able to plan and prioritise tasks.
  • Able to follow directions from staff.
  • Able to work unsupervised or as part of a team.
  • A pleasant, non-judgemental and empathetic manner.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with a diverse range of clients.
  • Honesty and trustworthiness.
  • Appropriate dress, language and behaviour.

TIME COMMITMENT: Set days as negotiated. Minimum half day per week.
