Victim Services Advocate Volunteer

Are you a compassionate person who is interested in helping crime victims in your community? Do you want to learn more about how the criminal justice system works? Whether your passion is directly working with victims or behind-the-scenes support, the City Attorney's Office is looking for volunteers to assist with victim support in the Criminal and Community Justice Divisions.

Description: Mentoring/coaching services, advocate support and providing access to a variety of resource information and referral services for victims, volunteers are able to meet our mission for victim services by:

  • Providing information to victims about court process
  • Providing advocacy, referrals and resource materials to victims
  • Liaise with attorneys and victims
  • Providing case follow-up and check-in with victims
  • Providing encouragement and inspirational support through the process 

Qualifications:

Minimum 18 years old

Successfully pass Background check

Reference checks

Annual training video

Opportunity training

Site orientation

Reliable, trustworthy and ability to maintain confidential information

Life experience or a combination of skills and experience/training in victim services preferred

Availability: During business hours

Commitment: Minimum 4 hours shift twice a week (Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00)

Duration: 6 months

Location: Volunteer support will be done at the City Attorney's Office and court. Complimentary parking for this work location is not available. You must pay for your own parking if you choose to drive yourself to this location. However, transportation alternatives are available, which includes the bus, trolley, or Coaster train, which are all within walking distance to the downtown locations.
