Wagging Tales Volunteer: Help Kids Read to Dogs
One of the best ways that young kids develop their reading skills is by reading aloud. Reading aloud to dogs is fun and effective, since the dogs listen and don’t tease, laugh, or judge the child. Pet Assisted Therapy Storytelling provides a positive, nonthreatening, fun environment to support literacy. Wagging Tales Volunteers bring their certified therapy dogs to the Pacific Beach Branch Library on the 1st Saturday of each month, to help emerging readers improve their literacy skills.
To be a Wagging Tales Volunteer you must be at least 18 years old, have completed 10 supervised visits and be a current member of a recognized Pet-Assisted Therapy organization. Your dog must have passed Control Evaluation and be covered under liability insurance, and you will need to pass the City of San Diego's background check.
