How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
High school students! Gain leadership experience and community service hours this summer by volunteering at Tommy Thompson Park (TTP) Summer Nature Day Camp. Spend your summer days exploring the meadows, forests, and wetlands of Toronto's urban wilderness.
As a summer camp volunteer, you will be assisting TRCA staff with the delivery of hands-on learning and play for campers age 6-12 that is centered around building a connection with the Land. We offer a variety of themes, such as Birds in the City, Art in Nature, Science on the Spit, and Wildlife Adventures. This position is ideal for those who love working with children, enjoy spending time in nature, and want to learn new skills in an outdoor education setting.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Assist with the set up and take down of games and activities
- Organize and care for educational materials and resources
- Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive environment
- Assist with the delivery of nature-based programming
- Assist with leading guided hikes and ensure participant safety while outdoors
- Engage campers with activities and make camp fun for kids!
- Adhere to all TRCA safety policies and procedures
What will you need to succeed:
- Comfortable working outdoors in diverse weather conditions
- Strong communication skills and ability to take initiative in a team environment
- Knowledge of or interest in environmental topics, with a focus on local wildlife, native plants, and environmental conservation
- Experience working with children in a leadership position is an asset
- Must be 14 years of age or older by the start of their first camp week
- Successful volunteers aged 18 and above may be required to undergo a vulnerable sector screening, with the cost incurred by the volunteer
