How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:

The Citizen Science Volunteer Program provides volunteers with new skills that could be transferrable for future career opportunities in the environmental field or to provide unique and interesting learning activities for anyone who is passionate about the environment and would like to give back. Through the program, volunteers will help make areas more resilient and adaptable, increasing success and population growth. We train and mentor volunteers to assist TRCA staff with a variety of priority projects. 

What you will do as a volunteer: 

The spring and fall seasons are very busy with a variety of events and this opportunity is great for those that love interacting with the public. Tasks would include:

  • Helping to set up for events
  • Assisting with registration check-in
  • Helping participants with planting demonstrations
  • Going around and assisting participants while they are planting

What will you need to succeed:

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Physically able to walk on uneven terrain a short distance from parking lot to planting sites.
  • Interest in environmental conservation.
  • Native plant identification skills is an asset
  • Willingness to learn
  • Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older
  • Experience with fieldwork and/or collecting data is an asset
