Camp Support Volunteer (Play in the Park Camps)

Play in the Park is a free, supervised, outdoor program for children aged 6 to 12 years old. Children participate in fun recreational activities including organized games, sports, crafts, theme days, and special events in local neighbourhood parks. All our programs are supervised by qualified staff trained in HIGH FIVE® principles of healthy child development.

Under the guidance and direction of the 'Play in the Park' Camp Leaders, the Camp Support Volunteer will support the camp staff in the operation and delivery of various camp activities and programs, which are primarily conducted outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support an assigned Camp Leader in the supervision of program
    participants.
  • To support objectives, rules and philosophies of the camp program.
    To support a positive customer experience, referring customer enquiries to the
    appropriate staff for resolution.
  • Inform camp leader of anything that would impact the quality and safety of day to
    day operations of the camp such as supplies, facility/equipment safety, participant
    behaviour etc.
  • Support staff by incorporating and modelling the HIGH FIVE® Principles of
    Healthy Child Development for quality programs.

 

Position Requirements

  • Must be 14 years of age or older.
  • Availability during the camp times: Most Camps run from 9 am to 4 pm.
  • Ability to work outdoors and stand for long hours.
  • Previous experience working with children is an asset.
  • Adhere to the Volunteering Terms and Conditions
  • The volunteer opportunity offer is conditional upon the acceptable receipt of;
    • The Record of Offences Declaration, which is available as a question in the volunteer application.
    • The following documentation which are only required once you have been successful in the selection process. The links to the samples are provided here only for your review.
      • Volunteering Terms and Conditions Consent and Confirmation (Form 2754)
      • Consent to Audio Tape, Video Record and Photograph (Form 2753)
    • Completion of the City of Mississauga Volunteer Orientation (Online Module) which is only required once you have been successful in the selection process.
  • HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development is highly recommended.
  • Further requirements may be expected which are not necessarily listed but are in
    keeping with the position (eg. Orientation Meeting, Training etc.).
