We meet Thursdays, 10am-1pm in the William Morris Garden (behind the Gallery).

Join our welcoming group and help keep the William Morris Garden looking beautiful. We do a variety of tasks including weeding, pruning, lawn maintenance, propagation and planting. You don’t need any gardening experience. Please wear old clothes and sturdy shoes.

Purpose of a Lloyd Park Volunteer Gardener

To help keep the William Morris Garden looking lovely

 

Main Tasks

The types of tasks typically undertaken include:

  • Help keep the William Morris Garden in Lloyd Park looking beautiful.
  • We do a variety of tasks including weeding, pruning, lawn maintenance, mulching, dead heading, propagation and planting.

Volunteering hours and duration of role

  • Volunteer Gardening runs from 10am-1pm every Thursday. You don’t need to be able to stay for the whole session, but we do ask that you come at 10am, when we go through the tasks and health and safety. There is also no commitment – just come as often as you’d like. Tea and cake break is at 12noon

 

Supervision

  • We run Volunteer Gardening every Thursday (except over Christmas) so you can just turn up. Get in touch with us if you’d like further information. Sessions are run by Ellie and Cathy with the help of the Lloyd Park Head Gardener and our Support Volunteers

 

What we look for in volunteers

  • You don’t need to have any gardening knowledge or experience. We’re just looking for people who want to help care for their park and enjoy gardening

 

What we will offer you

We will provide you with:

  • All the tools and equipment you’ll need
  • Please dress in old clothes that are suitable for the weather and wear sensible shoes. We have some waterproofs and sturdy boots you can borrow, if you don’t have them yourself
  • If you’re looking to gain more skills and experience for your CV, or you just want to be more involved we’re looking for Support Volunteers to help us to run our sessions

 

What we need from you

  • We’ll need you to turn up at 10am and adhere to Volunteer Code of Conduct when you’re gardening with us. We can give you a copy of this in advance if you’d like
  • Willingness to respect other volunteers, park users and staff; and enthusiasm

 

Other information

  • We can pay reasonable travel expenses, which you’ll need to ask us about in advance. You’ll need to provide receipts in order to receive expenses
  • Please contact us if you’d like to discuss your access needs. We’re a welcoming and inclusive group
  • Under-18s will need an adult supervisor
