Conservation volunteers undertake a range of activities in our parks, ranging from planting trees and wild flower meadows, to building stiles, clearing footpaths or creating new food growing projects.

Purpose of the BAT East Project

To carry out a range of practical conservation and landscaping tasks across Waltham Forest


Main Tasks

The types of tasks typically undertaken by a BAT East volunteer include:

  • Habitat creation/management
  • Vegetation/scrub clearance
  • Invasive species control
  • Tree felling
  • Construction – fences, paths, ponds, raised beds etc.

Volunteering hours and duration of role

  • It is hoped that volunteers will be able to provide 7 hours per week (one day) between 9 – 5pm
  • There is no minimum commitment, volunteers are welcome to come as often and for as long as they like.  We run three days every week Tuesday-Thursday



  • All sessions are managed by qualified leaders who are trained in first aid
  • We will strive to respond to all queries, issues and concerns volunteers have asap

What we will offer you

We will provide you with:

  • A full introduction to the task
