Strong Families Program Special Projects Volunteer

The Strong Families Special Projects Volunteer will assist the program staff with short-term, focused projects to enhance and expand the programs’ effectiveness.  Examples of projects include:

  • Contacting group participants with reminders and other information
  • Preparing materials for group sessions
  • Developing and testing methods to engage the program alumni
  • Drafting and circulating outreach messages in Spanish  


Impact of the volunteer:

The volunteer will temporarily expand the capacity of the Strong Families Initiative team to accomplish a pressing project.


Catholic Charities Strong Families Initiative:

  • Offers Latino families support to build strong family bonds in their new home
  • Staff facilitate group circles for parents and for teens using a tested curriculum developed by a respected national organization
  • After successfully working with several parishes in Montgomery County, the program is expanding to Price George’s County
  • In the 2023-2024 school year, the program will include youth peer circle leaders


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Volunteer and SFI staff liaison will agree on the duties and responsibilities and timeline to complete the project.
  • Log hours-served once a week in the volunteer system.



  • Be organized, goal-focused, adaptable
  • Be energized by a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Be competent in Office 365 suite of applications (Outlook, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Be available to work on site at the Catholic Charities Center at least half a day a week
  • Be capable of working independently and with a team, writing clear and concise reports, presenting information to a group
  • Be able to contribute to the camaraderie of the Strong Families Team and the Catholic Charities Center Team


Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics:

  • Experience volunteering or working with the Latino community is helpful
  • Experience as a teacher, facilitator, coach is helpful
  • Intermediate Spanish, or better, is helpful

The HR Special Projects Volunteer will

  • Serve under the supervision of the Manager of the Strong Families Initiative Program
  • Have access to online and in-person training offered to CC DC staff via the LMS.


Time Commitment:

  • 4-hour shifts; once a week
  • Weekdays during regular office hours
  • On-site at Catholic Charities Center with potential for doing work from home after completing at least 2 shifts on-site

  • The Strong Families Initiative operates out of the Catholic Charities Center at 12247 Georgia Ave Wheaton MD 20902
  • Parking available on site
  • The closest metro stop is Glenmont. It is a 15-minute walk to the CCC.

  • October 15- October 23: Attend virtual Volunteer Orientation and complete screenings.
