Quality dental care is essential to everyone's health and well-being but is not accessible to all. Catholic Charities Dental Services works to eliminate this health disparity for adults and children who are uninsured, and you can be a part of this important work 

 

Volunteer dental professionals provide preventive, diagnostic, emergency and restorative oral healthcare for people who are uninsured. Join this enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers who are making a lasting difference in the lives of our patients. We are looking for volunteers in Temple Hills and DC. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:   

  • Discuss treatment options with patients 
  • Provide preventive and therapeutic services 
  • Review patient’s medical and dental history and chief complaints
  • Assesses the dental and periodontal status (including extra-oral and intra-oral screening examinations, and oral cancer screening)
  • Performs TMD evaluations.
  • Prescribe medication, as required
  • Maintain patient records via electronic medical records. (eCW dental software)
  • Promote awareness of the need for dental care through the education of patients and the community
  • Maintain the integrity of care undertaken by assistants and hygienists through supervision and coordination, as specified by the Board of Dentistry
  • Responsible for logging hours on volunteer management systems.  

 

Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics:  

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with the Latino community preferred
  • Ability to work within and professionally support the principles of Dental Ethics and practice as understood by the Catholic Church
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Ability to use a computer and programs such as eCW dental software 

 

Qualifications: 

  • DDS degree from an accredited University 
  • Valid dental license (DC and Maryland) , current malpractice coverage policy, and DEA certification 
  • A minimum of two (2) years working as a dentist
  • A minimum of one (1) year clinical supervisory experience

  • At Susan Denison Mona Center:
    • From 8am-12pm / 1-4.30pm (Tuesday or Wednesday
  • At Spanish Catholic Center DC 
    • From 8am-12pm / 1-4.30pm (Tuesday)
