Hearing Aid Clinic Volunteer
Role Summary: Jewish Care is launching a brand-new Hearing Aid Clinic in Golders Green, designed to support people both in the wider community and across our local services. The clinic will help individuals get the most from their hearing aids by offering practical advice, routine maintenance, and guidance on effective use. This volunteer role is central to the success of the initiative. Volunteers will support clinic users to build confidence in caring for their hearing aids, develop their understanding of maintenance, and ensure they can continue to use their devices effectively in everyday life.
Time Commitment:
- Weekly
- 3-4 hours per week.
The clinics will run once a week in different locations local to Amelie House in Golders Green, with one potential clinic taking place in Hendon. The clinic should run for around 3 hours per week.
How this role makes a difference: Research by Care England and the Jewish Deaf Association (JDA) highlights the vital importance of good hearing hygiene, particularly for older people and those living in residential care. Untreated hearing loss is linked to increased risks of dementia, social isolation, and a decline in overall health and wellbeing. By supporting individuals with hearing aids and hearing loss, volunteers play a key role in improving quality of life, helping people stay connected, maintain independence, and live fuller, more rewarding lives within their communities.
What you’ll be doing in this role: Volunteers will support the smooth running of the Hearing Aid Clinic and provide practical assistance to service users. Tasks may include:

- Welcoming and supporting visitors attending the clinic
- Assisting with basic hearing aid maintenance (e.g. cleaning, changing batteries, replacing tubing or domes) *
- Supporting individuals to understand how to use and care for their hearing aids effectively*
- Demonstrating simple maintenance techniques under guidance *
- Providing reassurance and practical advice – full training will be given*
- Helping to identify when a hearing aid may need further professional attention*
- Assisting with setting up and packing down the clinic space
- Supporting with basic record-keeping or appointment coordination (where required)
- Working alongside staff and other volunteers to ensure a positive and supportive environment
Skills, experience, and attributes required:
No prior experience with hearing aids is required, as full training will be provided. We are looking for volunteers who:
- Have an interest in supporting older adults or people with hearing loss
- Are patient, approachable, and empathetic
- Are comfortable learning new skills and following guidance
- Basic administrative skills (notetaking or helping with appointments) - desired but not essential.
- Confidence engaging with a diverse range of people
- A strong understanding and of issues that affect people in later life
- Reliability, consistency and dependability
- Ability to work as part of a team if required
- Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice
- The ability to work independently but also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising what should and shouldn’t be done and when to seek advice or report concerns.
Induction, Learning & Development:
Training is provided so that volunteers can carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop new skills, build confidence, make new friends and take on new and increasingly responsible tasks.
Jewish Care will provide the following training, essential for this role:
- Provide you with access to a Volunteer Handbook and all Policies and Procedures.
- Provide Mandatory Induction Training: Getting to know Jewish Care, Communication & Disability Awareness, Boundaries & Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR.
- Provide on the job induction.
