Love local parks and green spaces? Want to play a part in protecting them?
Parkcare is the perfect program for community members who want to volunteer their time to support the health and beauty of Redlands’ parks and reserves.
What is Parkcare?
Parkcare is a Redland City Council volunteer program focused on the care of council-managed parks and natural areas. Volunteers work with Council to protect, restore, and enhance these environments through a variety of activities including:
- Weed control
- Native planting
- Site Maintenance
- Rubbish removal
Parkcare is open to individuals, families, schools, and community groups who care about their local environment.
What is Verge care?
Verge care allows Parkcare volunteers to help maintain and improve road verges (nature strips), contributing to the beauty and biodiversity of local neighbourhoods.
Volunteers, under Council guidance, may perform low-impact tasks such as:
- Mowing and trimming grass
- Removing weeds and litter
- Mulching garden areas
- Planting low-growing native plants (with Council approval).
Where does Parkcare operate?
Across a wide range of mainland and island parks, reserves, and areas managed by Redland City Council. Activities are coordinated locally with volunteers based on area needs and interest.

What’s involved?
Parkcare groups usually meet monthly, but some meet more or less often depending on availability. Activities vary but may include:
- Removing invasive weeds
- Planting native species
- Mulching and watering
- General site care
Training is provided and all volunteers are covered by Council’s Volunteer Insurance Scheme.
