Hobart City Mission - Our Current Volunteer Opportunities

School Engagement Opportunity

Volunteer as a School Group

Volunteering at school creates a culture of community and caring.

We offer your school group educational volunteering opportunities such as donation sorting, working in retail environments, or volunteering in our various programs.

By volunteering with Hobart City Mission, your school will help to support life-changing programs, including:

  • Housing and support for young mums and their children & dads and their kids
  • Food packs and financial support for people struggling to make ends meet
  • Long term housing for people facing / experiencing homelessness

Some ways that your school can volunteer:

  • Spend a half-day sorting donations at City Mission Op Shops Sorting Warehouse. You'll learn all about what makes a good second-hand donation, and what happens to the not-so-good donations. A great option for classes learning about recycling and the circular economy.

  • We often have project-based volunteering opportunities in our programs. These are different every time but can include things such as helping to create garden beds or sorting food donations for our Christmas programs. Get in contact to find out where we need a helping hand.

  • For older students seeking work experience, we can provide opportunities in one of our nine City Mission Op Shops. Students will learn retail and customer service skills. (Please note, students under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian/teacher).

This is a great opportunity for:

  • School groups & classes (up to 30 people) who are studying a certain topic such as recycling & sustainability, homelessness or other community issues.

  • Older students who are seeking work experience opportunities
