Hobart City Mission - Our Current Volunteer Opportunities

Social Enterprise - Donation Sorting

Help Source Great clothing and household items for our Op Shops | Non-Customer Service role at our Sorting Warehouse

Help source the best possible items for our Op Shops by volunteering at our Sorting Warehouse. Our Sorting Warehouse is the heart of our Op Shops, collecting and sorting donations, before sending them out to our nine City Mission Op Shops.

All money raised through the sale of second-hand goods in our stores helps to fund important community programs.

By volunteering in this role, you help to raise money that will go towards some life-changing programs, including:

  • Housing and support to young mums and their children & dads & their kids
  • Food packs and financial support for people struggling to make ends meet
  • Long term housing for people facing homelessness

What you’ll do:

  • Sort and categorise donated clothing, bric-a-brac, homewares and other items
  • Greet and thank people donating second hand goods to the warehouse
  • Help to make sure the Sorting Warehouse is a safe place for everyone

This is a great opportunity for:

  • People who are passionate about helping their local community
  • People who would like a role that is not customer facing
  • People who enjoy a more meditative sort of role – this is a lovely place to have a chat with fellow volunteers while making a big difference to our stores
