Outpatients and Clinics Volunteer
Both of our main hospitals support huge numbers of patients through various outpatients services and clinics. We need volunteers to help ensure that these areas are welcoming and that patients are supported through their experience with us. The majority of these patients are outpatients, visiting us for the day to have a test or short procedure. We have roles in a variety or locations, which could include phlebotomy (blood tests), endoscopy and physiotherapy. Your tasks will typically include:
- Welcoming patients
- Updating patients on waiting times
- Fetching tea or coffee for patients while they are waiting
- Some light admin
- Sitting with lonely or anxious patients
- Helping patients to other parts of the hospital or other appointments
- Conducting short feedback surveys (usually the Friends and Family Test)
- Reassuring patients
This role is ideal for those who like fast-paced environments and would prefer not to volunteer on a ward.
Time commitment: our clinics typically run during week days between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm although this varies from clinic to clinic. We would expect you to commit to a shift of around 3 hours once a week for at least six months. Again, this might vary from role to role. This role is not available during evenings or weekends.
Location: this role is available at both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital, depending on which recruitment event you are attending.
Volunteering Services Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
To be a transformational service which positively impacts the lives of our patients, staff and volunteers.
We care: We care for our patients, our colleagues, volunteers and for ourselves. We put welfare above service delivery. We actively seek opportunities to support social justice and social mobility, and to address inequalities.
We share: We share in each other's successes, we share information and updates, we share victories and challenges, and we share responsibility.
We innovate: We don’t settle for the status quo. We embrace change. We seek to learn from others, from quantitative data and from qualitative feedback. We iterate.
We give and accept feedback: Feedback is a continuous part of how we communicate and work with one another.
We are accountable: We take responsibility for our actions and learn from our mistakes.
We recognise our boundaries: We ask for help we need it. We maintain a healthy work-life balance.
