Bleep Volunteer (West Middlesex)

Overview: An exciting & dynamic patient facing volunteering role to support patients and nursing staff in West Middlesex University Hospital. A roaming volunteer role with a broad range of non-clinical duties in several locations. This role will give a unique insight and experience of working in a hospital.

Tasks include:

  • Welcoming and supporting incoming patients and visitors in the reception area. Helping with directions
  • Welcoming patients to Outpatients, assisting with directions, coffee & tea, any non-clinical support
  • Calling in at different locations to lend a hand
  • Helping with patient surveys
  • Medication runs from the internal pharmacy to wards
  • Supporting the Discharge Lounge by collecting patients from wards
  • Befriending patients on wards
  • Wheelchair collection
  • Responding to requests via the Bleep radio for support

Availability: Shifts are available on weekdays for 4 hour shifts between 9am to 5pm (morning or afternoon), depending on your availability. Please note that this role is not available during evenings or weekends.

Time commitment: You must be available for at least one shift of 4 hours per week, for a minimum of six months.

Requirements of the role:

  • Age: You must be 16 years or older
  • Accessibility: This role requires you to be fit and healthy as it involves a lot of walking

    Skills and other requirements:

  • You must be self-motivated; with an ability to think on your feet and work independently
  • This role is active and you will be on your feet a lot. You should have a reasonable level of fitness
  • You must be punctual and dependable
  • You must have a professional and friendly demeanor
  • You must be flexible and eager to learn

    Pre-placement checks and training:

  • You must have an enhanced criminal record check (DBS) for this role. If you do not have one already then we can organise one.
  • This role requires that you have certain immunisations and you will need to complete a health declaration form – we will discuss this with you when you apply.
  • You will receive a core volunteering induction.

And you will also receive a specific Bleep Volunteer induction and orientation.
