Ward Support Volunteer 

The patients experience is at the heart of everything we do at Hinchingbrooke Hospital, we are seeking volunteers to support our patients in our Acute Trauma and Surgical unit, by offering companionship, support and help with practical tasks.

Location

Hinchingbrooke Hospital - Huntingdon PE29 6NT

Days/Hours Required:

Monday - Friday (4 hour shifts)

Shifts hours (10:00 - 14:00)

 

Main Tasks

Volunteers offer vital support to all wards complementing the work of our staff and enhancing the patient’s experience. We are recruiting Volunteers to provide companionship and support for our patients whose responsibilities could include

  • Sitting and talking to patients offering companionship
  • Helping with the tea/coffee rounds
  • Changing water jugs
  • Meal time help
  • Tidying bed area
  • Activities – reading, games
  • Answering Patient Call Bells
  • Collecting Discharge Medications (TTO's) from Pharmacy
  • Helping Patients pack their belongings ready for Discharge
  • Completing FFT's with Patients (Friends + Family Test feedback forms)

Volunteers compliment staff and offer company to our patients, making a real difference to their experience of being a patient at Hinchingbrooke. Your support in this role will enhance the patients stay and help to reduce anxiety associated by being in the hospital environment.

Requirements

Volunteers must be reliable and able to regularly commit to an agreed day for volunteering, you will need to have excellent communication skills and be able    to approach people in a confident manner to begin conversation.

All successful applicants will receive a full volunteer induction, relevant training and on-going support in the role. You will be issued with a volunteer badge and uniform, parking permit and be able to claim travel expenses within a 20 mile radius of the Hospital
