YOUTH VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM 2023-2024
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust covers Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford Hospitals, providing medical care to our surrounding communities.
We have a very popular youth volunteer programme that gives young people from 16 years old the opportunity to volunteer directly with patients on our Wards or in a Wayfinding role. This role is focussed on helping our patients, interacting with patients and visitors, supporting staff to focus on clinical duties. You may be asked to play a game with a patient or just sit and have a chat! Our youth volunteers say that volunteering increases their self confidence, an understanding of the medical system and its current challenges; and give them a sense of whether they could see themselves with a career within the NHS in future years.
Out Trust benefits from over 450 active volunteers helping our patients and visitors have a positive visit to our hospitals and they say that volunteering increases their wellbeing and sense of giving back to their communities.
Our youth volunteer programme at Peterborough City Hospital runs 3 separate intakes per year which last 13 weeks each, as well as a Summer Programme where volunteers can condense their volunteering experience to fit into school holiday dates.
As a Trust volunteer we expect you will live by the Trusts Values and Behaviours and bring your best self with you each week. We will observe you during your volunteering time and provide you with a reference at the end of your volunteering period with us. There may be opportunities after the 13 weeks to become part of our regular volunteer team and we can also provide leadership opportunities after this period as well. Basically, you will get out of volunteering what you put in!
At Peterborough City Hospital you will need to be committed to attend for the 13 week programme or the full summer programme.
